Who is Kenjaku?
Kenjaku is the name used for a sorcerer who takes over different bodies, rather than another name for Suguru Geto. The official anime character profile identifies Geto’s body as Kenjaku’s current vessel and names Noritoshi Kamo as one of his past identities. It does not identify the first body Kenjaku inhabited or establish his original personal identity.
This distinction matters because Geto’s appearance and abilities belong to the body Kenjaku occupies; they do not make Kenjaku and Geto the same person. The identity that persists across vessels is Kenjaku, while the bodies and names associated with his past change.
What was Kenjaku’s connection to the Death Paintings?
The official character profile attributes the creation of the Death Paintings to Kenjaku’s experiments mixing curses and human blood, conducted while he was acting as Noritoshi Kamo. Choso’s official profile identifies him as the incarnated first of the Death Paintings and says he comes to regard Yuji as a younger brother.

The series’ supernatural setting offers a little context, but not a personal motive: the official Shonen Jump series page describes curses as arising from negative human emotions. That premise helps explain the world in which Kenjaku’s experiments take place; it does not, by itself, explain why he conducts them.
Why did Kenjaku start the Culling Game?
Kenjaku is identified in official anime material as the mastermind behind the Culling Game, a lethal contest involving people with jujutsu. The official story synopsis follows battles among players in colonies and efforts to help people caught in the game.

The existence of the game and Kenjaku’s role in setting it in motion are clear. His complete intended end state and the full mechanics of his plan require the manga’s detailed exposition; a short anime profile or synopsis is not enough to establish them. Likewise, Tengen’s importance should not be mistaken for a complete explanation of Kenjaku’s plan: the official Tengen profile describes an immortal figure who is central to Japan’s barriers, but does not spell out the full Kenjaku–Tengen scheme.
What does Kenjaku want? Canon and interpretation
What can be stated securely is that Kenjaku pursues long-term schemes, changes bodies, conducts experiments, and orchestrates the Culling Game. These actions establish sustained planning, but they do not on their own prove a particular psychological explanation—such as a desire for power, revenge, or immortality.

For a manga-complete account, separate three questions:
- What Kenjaku explicitly says: His own dialogue is the best evidence for his stated objective.
- How the plan works: The manga’s exposition explains the intended mechanisms and their relationship to the Culling Game and Tengen.
- Why he wants that outcome: Any explanation beyond his explicit statements is interpretation, and should be presented as such.
The official anime summaries cited here establish his identities, experiments, and role in the game, but do not provide a definitive account of his original identity or complete inner motivation. The manga is the primary source for those finer distinctions.
