Kelly Clarkson’s divorce settlement included a reported $1,326,161 lump-sum payment, monthly spousal support scheduled through January 2024, and child support. Those divorce obligations were separate from a California labor ruling ordering her ex-husband and former manager, Brandon Blackstock, to repay $2,641,374 in commissions. Clarkson and Blackstock later settled the commission dispute confidentially, so public records do not establish the settlement amount or the net payment between them. Clarkson was not reported to be paying spousal support when Blackstock died in August 2025.
What Clarkson’s divorce settlement required
Clarkson and Blackstock married in 2013, and Clarkson filed for divorce in June 2020. Their divorce was finalized in March 2022. Us Weekly reported terms drawn from court documents: a one-time $1,326,161 payment, $115,000 a month in spousal support through January 2024, and $45,601 a month in child support. Clarkson had primary custody, according to the report. Us Weekly reported in January 2024 that she was making her final spousal-support payment.
The child-support schedule was reported to continue until the children reached 18, graduated from high school, or became self-supporting. These figures describe the reported settlement terms; they do not establish the total actually transferred over time.
Why Blackstock was ordered to repay commissions
The later $2.6 million figure came from a different legal matter. In a determination issued November 21, 2023, California’s Labor Commissioner found that Blackstock and Starstruck Management Group had improperly procured four employment engagements for Clarkson under the state’s Talent Agencies Act, which governs who may procure professional engagements for artists. The decision ordered repayment of $2,641,374 in commissions.

The commissioner’s ruling stated: “A manager, like any person without a talent agency license, cannot procure or attempt to procure employment for artists.” The award was limited to the four matters identified in the determination; it was not a blanket ruling that all management commissions were unlawful.

The commissioner did not order repayment of commissions tied to The Kelly Clarkson Show. The decision said Blackstock worked with Clarkson’s licensed agents on that deal. The California Labor Commissioner’s determination sets out the legal findings and deal-by-deal amounts; the Los Angeles Times report covered the ruling.

What happened to the commission dispute
Starstruck filed a commission lawsuit in September 2020. The labor commissioner held a multi-day hearing in March 2023 and issued the repayment determination that November. The award was appealed. In May 2024, Clarkson and Blackstock’s company requested dismissal after reaching a confidential settlement, according to Rolling Stone.
The settlement terms were not made public in the cited coverage. It therefore cannot establish whether the settlement matched, reduced, or otherwise resolved the $2,641,374 determination, or how much either side ultimately paid. The divorce-support figures and the commission award should not be added together as a total paid or owed: they arose from separate legal proceedings and run in different directions.

Was Clarkson still paying spousal support when Blackstock died?
No public reporting cited here says she was. The reported spousal-support schedule ended in January 2024; the Associated Press reported that Blackstock died on August 7, 2025, at age 48. A representative for his family said he had bravely battled cancer for more than three years and died peacefully surrounded by family. The Associated Press report announced his death.
