Kellie Pickler’s first reported public statement about her husband Kyle Jacobs’ death was shared with People in August 2023, six months after his death. Pickler thanked supporters and recalled Jacobs’ advice to “do nothing, just be still” in a moment of crisis. That statement was not an interview: a later report described her May 2026 appearance on the American Idol podcast as her first interview since his death.
What Kellie Pickler said in her August 2023 statement
ABC News reported on August 17, 2023, that Pickler shared a statement with People. In it, she thanked family, friends and supporters for their messages, saying, “It has truly touched my soul and it’s helping me get through the darkest time in my life.”
She also recalled a lesson from Jacobs: “One of the most beautiful lessons my husband taught me was in a moment of crisis, if you don’t know what to do, ‘do nothing, just be still,’” she said. Pickler said she planned an intimate memorial for later that fall.
What was reported about Kyle Jacobs’ death

Why reports call the 2026 appearance her “first interview”
In May 2026, E! News described Pickler’s conversation with Danielle Fishel on the American Idol podcast as her first interview since Jacobs’ death. That wording refers to the format: Pickler had already made a public statement in 2023, but the 2026 report concerned an interview. E!’s report supports that distinction; further details of the conversation are not included here.
Pickler and Jacobs’ relationship
Pickler and Jacobs married on New Year’s Day 2011, ABC News reported. Her August 2023 statement referred to him as her husband and focused on his advice and the support she received after his death.
