Reports published January 27, 2026, said a family altercation took place the previous day at a shared residence in Bengaluru’s Ramamurthy Nagar area. Kavya Gowda’s complaint alleged that relatives assaulted and threatened her and that her husband, Somasekhar, was struck and stabbed. The other side filed a counter-complaint, and police were reported to be investigating both accounts; the allegations are not findings of guilt.
What was reported to have happened?
NDTV described Gowda as a former Kannada television actor, jewellery designer and social media influencer. It reported that she lived with Somasekhar and their young daughter in a joint-family residence shared with Somasekhar’s brother Nandish, Nandish’s wife Prema and other relatives. Police sources cited by NDTV said the families had prior disputes, including disagreements involving a domestic helper.
According to the account attributed to Gowda’s complaint, a verbal argument on January 26, 2026, escalated after Prema allegedly slapped Gowda’s daughter. Gowda alleged that she was abused and threatened, that Priya assaulted her, and that Ravi Kumar hit Somasekhar with a wooden stick and stabbed him in the right shoulder. She also alleged threats of sexual violence and death. These are allegations reported by the outlets, not established findings.
Why were Kavya Gowda and Somasekhar hospitalised?
NDTV reported that Gowda, Somasekhar and Bhavya were taken to a private hospital for treatment. India Today separately reported that Gowda and Somasekhar were admitted to hospital. The available reports do not establish their later medical condition or provide a definitive account of injury severity.

What complaints were filed by both sides?
Gowda’s complaint
NDTV reported that Ramamurthy Nagar police registered a case based on Gowda’s complaint against Ravi Kumar, Prema, Nandish and Priya. The report described the sections as relating to assault, criminal intimidation, sexual threats and attempt to murder. Registration of a case records an allegation for investigation; it does not establish that the alleged conduct occurred or that anyone is guilty.
The counter-complaint
NDTV said Nandish and his family filed a counter-complaint alleging verbal and physical abuse by Gowda. Police were reported to be examining both complaints, medical records and statements. The reporting does not establish the outcome of that examination.

What is the dispute about?
The accounts differ. Prema said the conflict concerned property and alleged that Gowda wanted the house for herself. Gowda denied that she was after property and said she would pursue legal recourse. NDTV also quoted Prema describing the family’s living arrangements: “We are a joint family. My in-laws stay on the ground floor, we stay on the first floor, and Somasekhar and Kavya stay on the second floor.” This is Prema’s account, not an independently verified property record. The reports do not independently determine the dispute’s cause.

In a statement quoted by NDTV, Gowda said: “An FIR has been registered. I am not scared because I know the law is on my side.” The same report said police were examining the competing complaints and related records. The reports available here, all published January 27, 2026, do not establish a later police or court finding, a charge outcome, or a current medical update.
