“Golden,” performed by the fictional group HUNTR/X in Netflix’s animated film KPop Demon Hunters, won Best Song Written for Visual Media at the 2026 Grammy Awards. KATSEYE earned nominations for Best New Artist and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Gabriela,” but did not win either category. The results show a notable year for girl-group acts and music from an animated film; they do not, on their own, establish an all-time “first” Grammy milestone for girl groups.
What happened at the 2026 Grammys?
At the 68th Grammy Awards on February 1, 2026, the Recording Academy named “Golden” the winner of Best Song Written for Visual Media. The Academy credits the song to EJAE, Park Hong Jun, Joong Gyu Kwak, Yu Han Lee, Hee Dong Nam, Jeong Hoon Seo, and Mark Sonnenblick, with HUNTR/X in the artist credit. The official 2026 results also show KATSEYE among the nominees in two categories, but not among the winners.
The word “history” is best read as a headline hook, not a verified claim that this was the first time a girl group achieved a particular Grammy milestone. The available official results document the 2026 outcomes, but do not establish that broader historical distinction.
Which awards did KATSEYE and “Golden” receive?
| Category | 2026 result | What it recognizes |
|---|---|---|
| Best Song Written for Visual Media | “Golden” won; credited songwriters are EJAE, Park Hong Jun, Joong Gyu Kwak, Yu Han Lee, Hee Dong Nam, Jeong Hoon Seo, and Mark Sonnenblick. | A song written for visual media; this is a songwriter award, distinct from an award for a soundtrack album or a performing artist. |
| Best New Artist | KATSEYE was nominated; Olivia Dean won. | The Academy says the award recognizes an artist whose eligible-year releases broke through to public consciousness and notably affected the musical landscape. |
| Best Pop Duo/Group Performance | KATSEYE’s “Gabriela” and HUNTR/X’s “Golden” were nominated. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande won for “Defying Gravity.” | New vocal or instrumental duo/group or collaborative pop recordings, singles, or tracks. |
| Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media | The KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack was among the nominees. | A separate category for a compilation soundtrack, not the song-specific Best Song Written for Visual Media award. |
These distinctions matter: “Golden” won for its songwriting in a visual-media category, while its nomination alongside “Gabriela” in Best Pop Duo/Group Performance was a separate contest. The Recording Academy says winners are chosen by its voting members, who are music creators including artists, producers, songwriters, and engineers.

Who is HUNTR/X, and who sings “Golden”?
HUNTR/X is the fictional girl group in KPop Demon Hunters, not a real-world group separate from the singers behind its characters. Netflix’s cast guide identifies EJAE as the singing voice of Rumi, Audrey Nuna as the singing voice of Mira, and Rei Ami as the singing voice of Zoey. EJAE also co-wrote “Golden” with Mark Sonnenblick. The film’s character names and the real performers’ names should therefore not be treated as interchangeable credits.

The Recording Academy’s November 7, 2025 announcement set the eligibility period for the 2026 Grammys as August 31, 2024 through August 30, 2025. The Academy said the awards covered 12 fields and 95 categories. The ceremony took place February 1, 2026, at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena. The Academy’s announcement provides that award-year context.
