Emily Horwath shared a video montage of memories with her boyfriend, Callum Robinson, alongside a message he had sent her months before he was killed in Mexico. In it, he thanked her for collecting and framing their memories and said he was excited to make more together. Read after his death, that anticipation of a shared future gives the message its heartbreaking weight.
What Callum Robinson wrote
PerthNow reported on 21 May 2024 that Horwath posted the montage and shared Callum’s response. He praised the care she had put into gathering their memories and looked forward to creating more with her. The report reproduced one line from the message: “I’m excited to create many more with you veryyyyyy soon.”

The report says the message was sent on July 17 but does not identify the year. It describes it as having been sent months before the killings, not immediately beforehand. Its emotional force comes from the contrast between the future Callum imagined and the loss that followed.
Who was Callum Robinson?
Callum was 33, a professional lacrosse player from San Diego, and a Perth-born surfer, according to the reporting. He was travelling with his brother, Jake Robinson, and friend Jack Carter Rhoad on a surfing and camping trip in Baja California in late April 2024.

What happened in Baja California?
Mexico News Daily reported on 6 May 2024 that the Baja California Attorney General’s Office said the three men’s bodies were found in a 15-meter-deep well in the La Bocana area. The early account said authorities believed the men were attacked after people saw their campsite and pickup truck, with theft of tires or vehicle parts considered a possible motive. That was an investigative theory reported at the time, not a proven finding.
Contemporaneous reporting also said the truck was found burned and the men had gunshot wounds to the head. These details were reported in connection with the authorities’ account of the killings.

It also reported that Ari Gisell Silva was sentenced to 20 years after pleading guilty to instigating and participating in the murders. The same report said three other men accused in the case had rejected plea deals and were likely to go to trial. That account does not establish what happened in their cases after April 2026.
