The latest Buckingham Palace balcony appearance by Catherine, Princess of Wales—widely known as Kate Middleton—that these sources explicitly confirm was at Trooping the Colour on 15 June 2024. Official records confirm her participation in the 2025 procession and her presence at the 2026 parade, but do not establish that she joined the balcony in either year. Those later appearances should not be described as confirmed balcony appearances.
What happened at the confirmed balcony appearance?
On 15 June 2024, Catherine joined other members of the Royal Family on the Buckingham Palace balcony to watch the RAF fly-past at Trooping the Colour, also known as the King’s Birthday Parade. ITV reported that it was her first official public appearance since she revealed her cancer diagnosis. The report also made clear that one appearance did not mean she was returning to a full schedule of public engagements. ITV’s report from 15 June 2024.
What do the 2025 and 2026 records say?
| Year | What the source confirms | What it does not confirm |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | ITV reported that Catherine joined the Royal Family on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the fly-past on 15 June. | That this appearance marked a return to a full schedule of royal engagements. |
| 2025 | The Royal Family’s official account says she travelled from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards Parade in the second Ascot Landau with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The Royal Family’s 2025 event account. | The account does not say that she joined the balcony appearance. |
| 2026 | The Court Circular records that Catherine and her three children witnessed the King’s Birthday Parade, and that the King witnessed the RAF fly-past from Buckingham Palace. The Royal Family’s Court Circular. | The displayed entry does not say that Catherine was on the balcony. |
Because the later records do not specify a balcony appearance, they cannot establish that 2024 was definitively her most recent one. They do, however, leave 15 June 2024 as the latest balcony appearance explicitly verified by the sources cited here.
Why does Trooping the Colour include a balcony appearance?
Trooping the Colour is the ceremonial parade for the Sovereign’s official birthday. The Household Division describes a route from Buckingham Palace along The Mall to Horse Guards Parade and back. At the event’s conclusion, the King joins other members of the Royal Family on the Palace balcony to watch an RAF fly-past. The Household Division’s event guide.

No. A balcony appearance is evidence that she attended that particular event; it is not by itself evidence of a full return to public duties or an update on her health. In a statement published on 14 June 2024, Catherine said her treatment was ongoing and that she hoped to attend a few public engagements over the summer. She also wrote, “I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty.” Those were her remarks at that time, not a current health update. ITV’s reproduction of her statement, 14 June 2024.
