Catherine, Princess of Wales, confirmed on 14 June 2024 that she would attend Trooping the Colour the following day. She attended the King’s Birthday Parade in London on 15 June, her first public appearance since announcing her cancer diagnosis; her statement said treatment was still ongoing.
When Kate confirmed she would attend
In a statement issued on 14 June 2024, the Princess said she was making good progress but continued to receive treatment. She described having “good days and bad days” and said treatment would continue for a few more months. ITV News reproduced the statement, issued by Kensington Palace.
The confirmation came one day before the parade. A government website listing in March had suggested she would attend, but it was removed because Kensington Palace had not confirmed her plans. That earlier listing was not confirmation; the June statement was. The Associated Press reported on the listing’s removal.
What happened at the 15 June parade
The Princess travelled to the event in the Glass Coach with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The Royal Family’s official account of the 2024 parade records the journey, while the Court Circular for 15 June records her attendance as Colonel of the Irish Guards.

Trooping the Colour is the annual parade marking the Sovereign’s official birthday, a tradition the Royal Family says dates to 1748. In 2024, Number 9 Company of the Irish Guards trooped its Colour. The Royal Family’s event account described the parade as featuring more than a thousand soldiers of the Household Division and hundreds of military working horses; those are the account’s descriptions of that event, not independently audited totals.

The statement said treatment was continuing and did not identify the type of cancer. Her attendance at a public event does not establish further details about her diagnosis, treatment, prognosis or recovery.
King Charles III welcomed the news through a Buckingham Palace statement quoted by ITV News: “His Majesty is delighted that The Princess is able to attend tomorrow’s events, and is much looking forward to all elements of the day.”
