When JustWatch will not open, stays on a loading screen, shows “Something went wrong,” or rejects a valid login, the cause is usually one of five things: a local app problem, a network or VPN issue, an account-sync failure, an unsupported TV app, or a problem at the streaming provider you opened from JustWatch. Work through the least destructive checks first.
JustWatch is primarily a free streaming guide. It collects availability from subscription, free, ad-supported, rental, and purchase services; it does not control playback inside Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV, or other external apps. Learn how JustWatch works.

First determine what is actually broken
Use the symptom to choose the right fix. Do not clear app data or create a new account before checking whether the problem is broader than your device.

Check whether JustWatch is down
- Open the JustWatch website in a browser.
- Try a private/incognito window or a second browser.
- Test another device, if available.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data.
If the website and app fail across different devices and networks, stop repeatedly changing account settings. That pattern is more consistent with a server-side or account-sync problem. A third-party outage detector or social-media post can reveal similar reports, but it does not prove an official live outage. JustWatch has had historical reports involving loading, watchlists, and synchronization, but those reports should be treated as anecdotal. Check the JustWatch support center for official information.
#1 Best Overall
- Get personal recommendations and see what was added recently across your favorite streaming services.
- JustWatch lets you search all your streaming services at once. Never go back and forth between your services again to find out if a movie or TV show is available.
- One watchlist to keep track of all the TV shows and movies you want to watch. Synchronized across all your devices.
Quick fixes that are safe to try first
1. Force-close JustWatch
Remove JustWatch from the recent-apps screen and open it again. On a TV or streaming device, exit the app completely rather than merely returning to the home screen.
2. Restart the device
Restart your phone, tablet, TV, Apple TV, Android TV device, Xbox, or Fire TV. A restart can clear a stuck app process and temporary network fault.
3. Test the connection
Open another website or streaming app. If several services fail, restart the router and test again. Switching networks is especially useful: if JustWatch works on cellular data but not Wi-Fi, investigate the router, DNS, parental controls, or network filtering rather than the app itself.
4. Temporarily disable network intermediaries
As a diagnostic test, temporarily disable a VPN, private DNS service, ad blocker, script blocker, corporate filter, or security application. These tools can interfere with API requests, cookies, authentication, or regional detection. Re-enable the tool if it is not responsible.
Update JustWatch and your device
Install the latest available JustWatch update and operating-system update. Do not rely on a version number shown on a web page as proof of the current mobile or TV release; app versions vary by platform.
- Android: Google Play Store → profile icon → Manage apps & device → update JustWatch.
- iPhone or iPad: App Store → profile icon → available updates → update JustWatch.
- Android TV, Apple TV, or LG TV: open the device’s app store and check for JustWatch updates.
For Android, Google recommends restarting the device, checking system and app updates, force-stopping the app, clearing its cache or data, and reinstalling when necessary. See Google’s Android app troubleshooting steps.
Fix JustWatch on Android
- Open Settings → Apps → JustWatch. Menu names vary by manufacturer.
- Tap Force stop, then reopen the app.
- Open Storage or Storage & cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
- Reopen JustWatch and test several titles.
If that fails, return to the same screen and consider Clear storage, Clear data, or the equivalent option. This signs you out and can erase locally stored app data. A watchlist attached to the correct JustWatch account should normally return after you sign in again, but local-only data may not be recoverable. Confirm that you know the original login method before clearing data.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsUninstall and reinstall JustWatch only after those checks. Reinstallation is a clean app reset, but it can also remove local settings and data.
Fix JustWatch on iPhone or iPad
- Force-close JustWatch and reopen it.
- Restart the iPhone or iPad.
- Update JustWatch in the App Store.
- Check for an iOS or iPadOS update.
- Open Settings → General → iPhone Storage → JustWatch.
- Try Offload App first if the option is available, then reinstall it.
- If necessary, delete JustWatch and download it again from the App Store.
Exact labels can differ by iOS release. Deleting or reinstalling the app may remove local data, so verify that your watchlist is connected to a JustWatch account before using the most destructive option.
Fix “Failed to Login” and sign-in loops
Use the original sign-in method
JustWatch supports email, Google, and Facebook login. If you originally selected Continue with Google, repeat that method instead of entering the same Gmail address through a separate email-login flow. Different authentication paths can lead to different accounts or an apparently empty profile. The JustWatch Terms of Use describe the available account methods.
If login keeps returning to the sign-in screen
- Force-close and reopen the app.
- Update JustWatch.
- Try signing in through the JustWatch website.
- Use another browser or a private window.
- Clear JustWatch cookies and cached site data.
- Temporarily disable a VPN, privacy filter, or browser extension.
- Use the same Google, Facebook, or email method used originally.
Do not create multiple new accounts while troubleshooting. A second account can make a missing watchlist look like it was deleted.
If a verification email does not arrive
- Check spam, junk, promotions, and filtered folders.
- Confirm the email address is typed correctly.
- Request a new link if the original may have expired.
- Open the link in the same device or browser that initiated the login when possible.
- Check whether a school or corporate mail system blocks automated messages.
Do not assume an error means your password is wrong. Cookies, the sign-in provider, network filtering, verification links, and backend problems can all produce login failures.

Check provider filters
The app can appear empty when filters hide the available offers. Review filters such as All, My Services, Subscriptions, Buy/Rent, and Free. See JustWatch’s explanation of provider filters.
Test more than one title
If every title shows a blank page, endless spinner, or “Something went wrong,” treat it as an app, network, or backend problem. If only one title is affected, it may simply be unavailable for your country, provider, or selected filter. JustWatch listings depend on regional licensing and can change over time. “Not listed for this country or filter” is not the same as proof that a title is unavailable everywhere.
Separate listings from playback
JustWatch tells you where a title may be available and normally sends you to the provider. If Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV, or another service opens but will not play the title, check that provider’s subscription, login, parental controls, regional restrictions, and service status. JustWatch cannot repair the provider’s playback system. See its content and availability guidance.

Fix JustWatch on a TV or streaming device
JustWatch lists Android TV, Apple TV, and LG apps as supported. Its TV support information describes Samsung, Xbox, and Fire TV apps as older and no longer actively supported, so a persistent problem on those platforms may not have a reliable TV-side fix. Test the web or mobile version instead. Read JustWatch’s TV-account instructions.
- Fully close and relaunch JustWatch.
- Restart the TV or streaming device.
- Check the device’s app store for an update.
- Confirm that the device is connected to the internet.
- Generate a new TV login code.
- Sign in on your phone or computer first.
- Enter the four-digit code shown by the TV app on the JustWatch TV connection page.
- Make sure the phone, computer, and TV use the same JustWatch account.
If only the TV fails while the website and mobile app work, suspect TV-app compatibility or code-based authentication. If a provider opens from JustWatch but playback fails, troubleshoot that provider instead.
If your watchlist is empty after fixing the app
- Sign out and sign back in using the original method: email, Google, or Facebook.
- Check the country and provider settings.
- Test the account on the JustWatch website.
- Do not immediately create another account or repeatedly reinstall the app.
An account-synchronized watchlist should normally be available across devices after the correct account is restored. However, information stored only on the device may be lost after clearing data or deleting the app. If the public catalog works but watchlists, tracking, or recommendations do not, the problem may be account synchronization rather than your internet connection.

Should you pay for JustWatch Pro?
Probably not to fix this problem. JustWatch describes its core discovery service as free, while Pro is an optional subscription with additional personalization and convenience features. Pro is unlikely to repair an outage, damaged cache, failed login, unsupported TV app, or external provider playback problem. It also does not provide access to Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, or other paid catalogs; those remain separate services. See JustWatch’s free-service information.
