The tour concluded in Turkey the day before. In the post, as quoted by the Associated Press, he described the illness as something that “can be relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically.”
What did Justin Timberlake say about Lyme disease?
Timberlake shared the diagnosis while looking back on the tour’s conclusion. The Associated Press reported that he said he had considered ending the tour after learning he had Lyme disease. He also wrote: “I honestly don’t know what my future is onstage, but I’ll always cherish this run! And all of them before! It’s been the stuff of legend for me.” Both quotations were reported by the Associated Press on July 31, 2025, from Timberlake’s Instagram post.
His description of Lyme disease as “can be relentlessly debilitating” was his own characterization of its potential impact. The report does not specify Timberlake’s symptoms, treatment, when he contracted the infection, or his current health status.
When did Timberlake reveal his diagnosis?
The Associated Press reported the disclosure on July 31, 2025, the day after the Forget Tomorrow tour ended in Turkey. Timberlake’s post connected the diagnosis with his reflections on performing through the tour and what might lie ahead for him onstage. Read the Associated Press report.

What is Lyme disease?
Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and is spread to people through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks. The CDC says most people recover completely when treated with a recommended course of oral antibiotics lasting two to four weeks. That general guidance does not establish what treatment Timberlake received.
Can symptoms continue after Lyme disease treatment?
Yes. Some people report prolonged fatigue, body aches, or difficulty thinking after treatment. The CDC uses the term Post-Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome (PTLDS) for prolonged symptoms following Lyme disease treatment. The reason these symptoms occur is not known, and their presence alone does not establish that bacteria are still causing an active infection.
The CDC cites studies finding that, six months after treatment, fatigue, body aches, or difficulty thinking were 5–10% more common among people who had Lyme disease than among people who had not. This is population-level context, not information about Timberlake. The agency says studies generally find extended antibiotic treatment no better than placebo for curing prolonged symptoms, and that long-term antibiotics can carry serious risks. Ongoing symptoms merit clinical evaluation because they can have causes other than Lyme disease. CDC: Chronic Symptoms and Lyme Disease.

The CDC recommends using EPA-registered insect repellents, checking for ticks after outdoor exposure, and promptly removing an attached tick. To remove one, use clean, fine-tipped tweezers to grasp it close to the skin and pull upward with steady, even pressure. These are prevention steps, not a substitute for medical care after a concerning bite or symptoms. See the CDC’s Lyme disease prevention guidance and instructions for what to do after a tick bite.
