It is identified as a filming location, not as a formally named estate. The distinction matters: the film’s fictional mother’s house is in Bridgeport, while those scenes were filmed in Westport.
Which New Canaan house was used in The Noel Diary?
USModernist identifies the Wydendown Road residence as the Mary-Lynette (Lyn) and Arthur Beecher Chivvis Jr. House. Architect Eliot Noyes designed it in 1978, and the architectural record lists the house as a location for The Noel Diary. USModernist’s house record also says the Chivvis family still owned it as of 2023; that dated note does not establish who owns it now.
“Famous New Canaan estate” is a headline-style description, not a verified formal property name: the sources identify a house. It is a private residence, and the available sources do not establish public access or tours.
What was filmed at Wydendown Road?
New Canaan reporting documented the production’s plans in May 2021. On May 20, NewCanaanite reported that location manager Michael Fucci told the town Police Commission a crew would film at a Wydendown Road home, followed by scenes in town. The report describes a car arriving at the house and an actor entering, along with scenes inside the home.

On May 25, Patch reported the planned Wydendown Road shoot and staging at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, as well as a later Town Hall and Main Street sequence. These reports confirm filming activity at a Wydendown Road home; USModernist supplies the specific Chivvis House identification.
Was it the fictional mother’s house?
No—not according to CTPost’s account of the movie’s locations. The story places the mother’s house in Bridgeport, but the relevant house scenes were filmed in Westport. New Canaan’s locations included the Wydendown Road residence and Town Hall/downtown material. CTPost’s location report distinguishes the fictional setting from the filming sites.

What is The Noel Diary about?
Netflix dates The Noel Diary to 2022. Its official film page describes Jake Turner, played by Justin Hartley, returning home at Christmas to settle his estranged mother’s estate and finding a diary connected to his past and to Rachel, played by Barrett Doss. Netflix Tudum says the film is based on Richard Paul Evans’s bestselling novel of the same name. Netflix Tudum’s film feature provides that adaptation context.
The book is the source novel, not necessarily a movie tie-in edition; Simon & Schuster lists the novel and physical editions on its publisher page.
