Sony currently lists the next Jumanji film, Jumanji: Open World, for a theatrical release on December 25, 2026. Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan are confirmed to return. Sony describes it as the series’ final chapter, but has not provided a full plot synopsis in the official announcement cited here.
When does Jumanji: Open World come out?
Sony Pictures’ current U.S. listing gives Jumanji: Open World a theatrical release date of December 25, 2026. Sony’s screening events page also lists the film for December 25. Release schedules can change, so check Sony’s film listing or screening events page for the latest information.
The date has changed from an earlier Sony corporate schedule, which listed December 11, 2026. Sony’s current film listing supersedes that earlier schedule for the date currently being marketed.
Sony Pictures Japan’s August 4, 2026 announcement also gives December 25, 2026, as the Japanese theatrical opening. It lists the localized title as ジュマンジ／オープンワールド. That date confirms Japan’s release, not a worldwide rollout schedule.

What is the story of Jumanji: Open World?

The premise behind the recent films helps explain the reference: in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, players are drawn into a video-game version of the jungle in the bodies of their avatars, as described on Sony’s official film page. That is background to the series, not a confirmed plot summary of Open World. Sony has not established the new film’s specific villains, locations, game mechanics or character arcs in the sources cited here.
Is Jumanji: Open World the last Jumanji movie?
Sony Pictures Japan calls Open World the final chapter of the action-adventure series in its August 4, 2026 announcement. That supports describing this film as the series’ final chapter; it does not establish anything beyond that wording about the broader franchise.
