Julia Stone says a shared sense of humour helps her and brother Angus move past the tensions that can come with making music together. She also has a deep admiration for Crowded House: after the invitation to tour alongside the band, she recalled saying an “immediate, emphatic yes!”
Why Julia and Angus Stone gel so well
Angus & Julia Stone have worked together as a duo since 2006, and Julia says humour is what helps them get through friction on the road and in the studio. “I think probably the saving grace is we both have a very similar sense of humour, so when things get kind of hairy we can just make each other laugh,” she told Zach Margolius of PerthNow.

Julia calls herself Angus’s “biggest fan” as a songwriter, admiring his ability to make deep sentiments feel accessible. She also praises his diligence in the studio and his commitment to carrying ideas through to completion.

In a June 2025 interview with Happy Mag, Julia offered another glimpse of their connection: singing together can bring their shared history to the surface, even when they do not often talk directly about their lives and experiences together.
Julia Stone’s love of Crowded House
Julia recalled that Angus & Julia Stone had enjoyed earlier shows with Crowded House, including the chance to watch the band after their own performance. She praised Crowded House’s songs as iconic and described Neil Finn as an incredible front man.
In a separate interview published by Happy Mag in June 2025, Julia called sharing a stage with Crowded House “magic.” She said hearing people sing the songs moved her. That is her account of the experience, rather than a measured claim about audience numbers.
How familiar songs can lead listeners deeper into the catalogue
PerthNow described Big Jet Plane as a 2010 hit and Chateau as a 2017 hit. Julia sees familiar songs as an entry point to the duo’s wider body of work. “Playing Chateau might get people through the front door, and then you hope that people will discover all the other parts of your music, because we’ve made so much music over the years,” she said.

In June 2025, Julia said the Crowded House tour gave the siblings a chance to visit places they had not reached on earlier runs and meet new audiences. She said they planned to draw from across their catalogue and might try a new song they were recording; that was a possibility she mentioned, not a confirmed setlist.
The Perth Red Hot Summer Tour appearance is now in the past
PerthNow’s December 2, 2025 feature previewed Angus & Julia Stone’s scheduled December 6 appearance at Sandalford Wines in the Swan Valley. It described the show as the Red Hot Summer Tour’s national finale and the siblings’ 14th festival stop, after they had been on the road with Crowded House since October. The feature framed regional festivals as an opportunity to play beyond quick city visits. The date is historical, not a current ticket opportunity.

Earlier roots of the duo
Angus and Julia initially pursued separate singer-songwriter paths before coming together as a duo. In an archival ABC J Files account, Julia also recalled Rick Rubin wanting to make a record with them together. That history helps explain how a shared musical direction emerged from two independent careers.
