Julia Haart’s divorce from Silvio Scaglia was reported final on September 16, 2026, after a multiyear legal battle. The key court victory came earlier: a January 2025 default divorce judgment that New York’s Appellate Division upheld in April 2026. That ruling did not settle every financial issue. The appellate court sent several awards back for further findings, and the final order addressing those issues is not available in the reporting cited here.
What happened in Julia Haart’s divorce case?
Haart filed for divorce in 2022. The dispute involved her marriage to Silvio Scaglia and their interests in companies including Freedom Holding and Elite World Group. A New York court decision recounts that Freedom Holding was formed in 2018, Elite World Group became its wholly owned subsidiary in January 2019, and Scaglia transferred half of Freedom Holding’s common stock to Haart in July 2019. The court’s account of the companies’ formation and ownership.
On January 17, 2025, New York Supreme Court Justice Jeffrey H. Pearlman struck Scaglia’s verified divorce complaint and granted Haart a default judgment of divorce on her answer and counterclaims. The court also ordered financial and business relief. In April 2026, the Appellate Division, First Department, affirmed the default and the divorce judgment while requiring additional explanation of several financial awards.
On September 16, 2026, Us Weekly reported Haart’s announcement that the divorce was final, quoting her: “The divorce is FINAL. This chapter is closed.” That report supports the fact that Haart publicly described the divorce as final; it does not provide the post-remand order or a complete account of the final financial terms. Us Weekly’s report of Haart’s announcement.

Why did the courts grant and uphold a default judgment?
The appellate panel said the record showed repeated violations of court orders, including failures or refusals to provide discovery, pay court-ordered counsel and expert fees, and attend conferences. It concluded that the trial court acted within its discretion when it struck Scaglia’s pleadings, found him in default, and granted Haart a divorce judgment on her counterclaims.
The panel described the trial court’s action as having “providently exercised its discretion.” This was an affirmance of the default and divorce judgment—not a ruling that every financial award had been fully established. The Appellate Division’s April 9, 2026 opinion.

What did the January 2025 order award?
The appellate opinion summarized the relief granted in the January 17, 2025 order. These are the awards as described by the appellate court, not all necessarily final amounts after the remand.
| Award in the January 2025 order | What the order provided | Status after the April 2026 appeal |
|---|---|---|
| Management fees | $7.4 million for unpaid fees covering 2019 through 2021 | The appellate court required findings explaining the factual basis and calculation. |
| Company interests | 50% ownership of Freedom Holding, its subsidiaries, Elite World Group, and SW Vestry as of the start of the action | The ownership finding was sent back for further explanation. |
| Van Dongen painting | 50% of proceeds from the sale of a painting owned by Freedom Holding | The proceeds award was sent back for findings and explanation. |
| Company withdrawals | Half of Scaglia’s withdrawals from the company since the action began that constituted dissipation of marital property | The appellate opinion’s specified remand covered the management-fee, ownership, and painting-proceeds awards. |
| Legal fees | 90% of Haart’s legal fees, with the amount to be set after an inquest | The appellate opinion summarized the award; the cited reporting does not state a final amount. |
| Powers of attorney | Authority to implement orders and address a mortgage-foreclosure action involving the marital residence | The powers remained in effect while the trial court made its further determination. |
The award figures and terms above are from the appellate court’s summary of the trial-level order. The opinion’s summary of the January 2025 awards.

What did the appeal change—and what remains uncertain?
The appeal did not undo Haart’s default divorce judgment. It did require the trial court to explain the basis for three financial determinations: the $7.4 million management-fee award, the 50% ownership finding, and the share of the painting proceeds. For the management fees, the appellate court said the record “lacks the calculation or basis” for the amount and directed that the issue be addressed at an inquest.
Any management fees or painting proceeds Haart had already received were to be placed in escrow pending a written determination. The powers of attorney were to remain in effect during that process. The appellate opinion does not establish the outcome of the later findings or provide a complete final settlement breakdown. The opinion’s remand instructions.

What does Haart’s later account say about company ownership?
In a September 25, 2026 Us Weekly interview, Haart said she now owns 100% of the company. That is her account as reported by the outlet. The April appellate opinion described an earlier award of 50% ownership and remanded that finding for further explanation; it is not a substitute for the post-remand order. The cited reporting does not include that order, so the exact legal terms of any later ownership change are not established here. Us Weekly’s September 25 interview report.
Us Weekly also characterized the dispute as a “$90 million legal battle.” That is the outlet’s framing, not a court valuation of the judgment or a verified final settlement total.
