Spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen manga and anime. If “curse” means cursed spirit, there is no official cross-series ranking that settles the question. Mahito, Jogo, Rika, and Kurourushi are all major threats, but the available official character pages do not establish which one is strongest. Ryomen Sukuna is a separate case: “King of Curses” is his epithet, not proof that he is a cursed spirit. This guide separates those categories and treats any ranking as interpretation rather than canon.
What counts as a curse in Jujutsu Kaisen?
The word can mean different things in this series. Cursed spirits are born from negative human emotion; vengeful cursed spirits are a related category. Rika is identified in the official anime roster as a special-grade vengeful cursed spirit. Sukuna, meanwhile, is widely known by the title “King of Curses,” but that title alone does not make him a cursed spirit. VIZ describes the setting as one where cursed spirits feed on humans and presents Sukuna as a legendary, feared figure. The official anime character roster and VIZ’s series page identify these figures and terms without publishing a definitive ranking.

For a fair comparison, the list below focuses on cursed spirits and vengeful cursed spirits, with Sukuna discussed separately. It is an editorial guide to prominent threats, not an official ordering. Strength can mean different things: performance in a particular fight, the reach and reliability of abilities, survivability, domain threat, or capacity for destruction. A character’s form and the point in the story matter too.
Which cursed spirits belong in the strongest discussion?
Official character materials identify Mahito and Jogo as major characters, Rika as a special-grade vengeful cursed spirit, and Kurourushi as special grade. Those labels and appearances make them natural candidates for comparison, but they do not establish a shared numeric scale or a ranking among them. The official pages identify candidates; they do not provide the detailed feat-by-feat evidence needed to declare a definitive winner.

| Character | What the cited official material establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Mahito | Listed among the official anime characters. Official anime roster | A comparative placement against the other candidates. |
| Jogo | Listed among the official anime characters. Official anime roster | A comparative placement against the other candidates. |
| Rika | Identified in the official roster as a special-grade vengeful cursed spirit. The profile also says Yuta succeeded in releasing her from the curse. Official anime roster | That every version or appearance of Rika is interchangeable, or that the special-grade label proves she outranks every other spirit. |
| Kurourushi | Identified as special grade in the official roster. Official anime roster | A comparative placement against other special-grade entities. |
Who is the strongest curse?
Among cursed spirits, the official sources cited here do not name a strongest one. A confident ordering of Mahito, Jogo, Rika, and Kurourushi would require comparing specific story versions and documented outcomes—not simply treating “special grade” as a universal rank. The official roster’s classifications flag high-threat entities, but it does not show that they occupy the same rung or settle their matchups.
Rika’s case especially depends on which story state a reader means. The official profile notes that Yuta released her from the curse, so it is inaccurate to treat all of her appearances as one unchanged version. For any matchup, specify the version and point in the story rather than using “Rika” as if it referred to a single constant power state.
Rank #2
Is Sukuna a cursed spirit?
Do not infer that he is one from the title “King of Curses.” VIZ uses that epithet while describing Sukuna as a legendary, feared figure, but the cited official page does not use the title to classify him as a cursed spirit. That distinction matters: an answer to “strongest curse” changes depending on whether the question means spirits only or the broader curse-related cast. VIZ’s series description supplies the epithet, not an all-character power ranking.
If the comparison is broadened beyond cursed spirits, Sukuna belongs in the discussion as a separate, exceptionally prominent curse-related figure. But the official materials cited here still do not provide a ranked comparison between him and every cursed spirit.

Does special grade mean strongest?
No—not by itself. “Special grade” is a classification used for particular entities in the official roster, including Rika and Kurourushi. The pages cited here do not define it as a single ladder for ranking every curse-related character, nor do they say that every special-grade entity is equally powerful. Sukuna’s epithet is a different kind of label altogether. Treat classifications and titles as useful descriptions, not as a substitute for comparing evidence under a stated set of rules.
How to judge a strongest-curse claim
When a list declares one character the winner, check whether it answers these questions:
Rank #4
- Which category? Cursed spirits only, vengeful cursed spirits included, or the wider group of curse-related characters?
- Which version? A specific arc or form, especially for characters whose story state changes?
- What does “strongest” mean? A direct matchup, breadth of abilities, resilience, domain threat, or destructive potential?
- What evidence supports the order? Official profiles identify characters and classifications, but do not themselves provide a full battle comparison.
Without clear answers, a ranking is best read as opinion rather than settled canon. The Jujutsu Kaisen: Official Character Guide is a directly relevant character reference named by VIZ; check the current listing and edition for details.

Which special-grade cursed spirit is strongest?
The official character pages cited here identify special-grade entities but do not rank them against one another. The answer depends on which versions and comparison criteria are used.

Is Rika stronger than the Disaster Curses?
The official materials cited here do not establish that comparison. Rika’s story state matters, and a reliable answer needs a defined version of Rika and specific canon evidence for the matchup.
