This is a subjective selection, weighing how counterintuitive a technique is, its tactical range, the conditions that limit it, and its effect on the story. It is not an official ranking.
Why cursed techniques can feel so unpredictable
In Jujutsu Kaisen, curses grow from negative human emotions such as bitterness, regret, and humiliation, as Shueisha’s official series page describes. A cursed technique gives that supernatural premise a particular logic: one ability may manipulate space, another may turn a trial into combat, and another may make a person’s body itself the battleground.

The manga’s completed main story is available in 30 volumes, with VIZ listing volume 30 as the final volume on its series page. The techniques below are discussed in their full-story context; their appeal lies as much in rules and trade-offs as in spectacle.
Limitless: making the space between things a weapon
What makes it unbelievable
Limitless, associated with Satoru Gojo, takes control of space and makes distance feel tangible. Its signature defensive effect is not simply a force field: an approaching attack is made to slow as it crosses the space around him, so reaching him becomes extraordinarily difficult. The concept turns an abstract mathematical idea—an interval that can be divided—into a practical combat defense.

Why its limits matter
The technique is not a blanket answer to every problem. Gojo’s exceptional ability to use it efficiently depends on the Six Eyes, and maintaining precise control imposes demands that matter in a prolonged fight. Domain effects and techniques that bypass or neutralize a target’s technique can also change the terms of the encounter. Limitless is astonishing because it makes defense, movement, and offense expressions of one spatial principle, not because it removes every possible counter.
VIZ’s April 2022 fan poll placed Gojo’s Limitless first among the listed cursed tools, energy, or techniques. That is a dated poll result, not a power ranking or a representative measure of all fans’ views.

Cursed Spirit Manipulation: turning defeated curses into an arsenal
What makes it unbelievable
Suguru Geto’s Cursed Spirit Manipulation lets him control cursed spirits after they submit. The official anime character material identifies Geto with the technique and describes this basic premise. In practice, it makes the sorcerer’s accumulated opponents potential future resources: a single user can deploy different spirits with different capabilities instead of relying on one fixed attack.
Why it is more than a numbers game
The technique’s strength depends on what spirits the user can acquire and command. It therefore ties combat power to prior encounters and creates a strategic choice about which spirits to bring into a situation. Its versatility is striking, but it is not limitless: control requires spirits to be subdued, and an arsenal is only useful when its contents suit the challenge at hand.

Reverse cursed technique: using cursed energy to restore rather than destroy
What makes it unbelievable
Cursed energy is commonly associated with harm, but reverse cursed technique produces positive energy that can heal. Shoko Ieiri is one of the few users of reverse cursed technique, according to the official anime character material. The surprising move is conceptual as well as practical: a system built around negative energy contains a demanding method for turning that energy into restoration.
Why healing has a high barrier
Reverse cursed technique is rare and technically difficult; it is not a routine healing option available to every sorcerer. Nor does the ability make a fighter invulnerable. Healing consumes resources and time, and damage can still overwhelm a user or leave consequences. Its story value comes from changing who can survive a battle and what risks a character can take—not from erasing the danger of combat.
Rank #4
Idle Transfiguration: treating the soul as the body’s blueprint
What makes it unbelievable
Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration lets him alter the shape of a person’s soul, with the body changing to match. That premise makes a touch terrifying: the threat is not only physical injury but a direct alteration of what the victim is. It also gives Mahito a way to reshape himself and create attacks that do not behave like ordinary blows.
Why contact and understanding matter
The technique’s most immediate threat is tied to contact with the target, and the story establishes that a person able to protect the shape of their soul can resist its effects. This gives encounters with Mahito a distinctive tactical problem: avoiding his touch is crucial, while understanding the soul becomes a form of defense. VIZ’s April 2022 poll placed Idle Transfiguration ninth among the listed cursed tools, energy, or techniques; that result reflects one poll, not an objective ranking of abilities.

Deadly Sentencing: a domain that turns combat into a trial
What makes it unbelievable
Hiromi Higuruma’s technique comes with the trial-themed domain Deadly Sentencing by default, according to the official character database. Rather than opening with a conventional exchange of attacks, the domain establishes a courtroom-like process: a charge is presented, evidence is considered, and a judgment can impose consequences that reshape the fight.
Why the rules create the drama
Deadly Sentencing’s unusual power is inseparable from procedure. The parties’ actions and the judgment matter; it is not simply a guaranteed attack that ends an opponent on entry. That makes it one of the series’ most surprising combat designs: the opponent must contend with a legal process whose outcome can alter what they are able to do, while Higuruma’s own options depend on the rules being applied.
Rika: a bond that becomes a combat presence
What makes it unbelievable
Rika is not a conventional cursed technique in the same sense as Limitless or Idle Transfiguration; she is a special grade vengeful cursed spirit associated with Yuta Okkotsu. Her presence combines emotional history with extraordinary combat utility, making a relationship and its consequences a visible part of a sorcerer’s fighting capacity.
Why the distinction matters
Calling Rika a technique can blur an important difference between a cursed spirit and an innate technique. Her role is compelling precisely because the story gives her a distinct identity and connection to Yuta, rather than presenting her as a move he can use without context. VIZ’s April 2022 poll listed Rika second among its cursed tools, energy, or technique choices; that is evidence of interest in that poll, not a claim that she is the second-strongest ability.
What makes these techniques memorable
- They make an idea operational: distance becomes defense, the soul becomes a target, and legal procedure becomes a combat system.
- They have conditions: acquisition, contact, technical skill, or a domain’s rules shape what each ability can accomplish.
- They change the questions in a fight: the opponent may need to avoid touch, break through spatial control, or navigate a trial rather than simply endure more force.
- They affect the story beyond one attack: healing changes survival, an arsenal changes preparation, and a bond can become part of a character’s identity.
Readers looking for a broader companion reference can consult VIZ’s listing for Jujutsu Kaisen: The Official Character Guide. Its listing establishes that the guide exists, but does not by itself establish that it explains every technique in detail.
