Yuji Itadori’s Domain Expansion appears at the end of Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 264 during the fight with Sukuna. It is an unnamed Domain filled with places from Yuji’s childhood, but its real combat purpose is precise: its sure-hit effect applies Yuji’s soul-targeting Dismantle to the boundary between Sukuna and Megumi.

Spoilers through Chapter 271 of the original Jujutsu Kaisen manga.
Yuji Itadori first uses Domain Expansion at the end of Chapter 264, during his final battle with Sukuna. The manga does not give the Domain an official name. It appears as a train-station-like world assembled from Yuji’s memories of home: familiar streets, a park, a department store, a movie theater, rural scenery, and a farm.

The setting is not just visual decoration. It represents Yuji’s belief that a person’s life is made meaningful by ordinary experiences and the memories people leave in one another. Mechanically, however, the Domain’s decisive feature is its sure-hit effect: Yuji’s Shrine technique produces a Dismantle capable of cutting the boundary between Sukuna’s soul and Megumi’s soul. That gives Yuji a way to attack Sukuna without simply destroying Megumi’s body.
What is Yuji’s Domain Expansion called?
It has no official name in the published manga. Names such as “Benevolent Shrine” and “Nostalgic Trip” are fan labels or descriptive shorthand, not confirmed canon.
The safest terminology is therefore Yuji’s unnamed Domain Expansion. Calling it “Benevolent Shrine” can be useful when discussing fan theories, but it should not be presented as the name Gege Akutami or the manga officially gave it.
When does Yuji use Domain Expansion?
Yuji activates the Domain at the end of Chapter 264, after the battle reaches a critical point and Sukuna continues resisting the sorcerers’ attempts to save Megumi. The next chapter, Chapter 265, reveals what the strange environment means.

Sukuna asks whether the location is Yuji’s Domain. Yuji admits that he does not completely understand the space himself and says that he wants to talk.
As the chapter continues, Yuji guides Sukuna through locations connected to his childhood and hometown. The Domain becomes a tour through the small, familiar parts of Yuji’s life rather than an immediately recognizable killing field.
What does Yuji’s Domain look like?
The Domain moves through a series of everyday locations associated with Yuji’s memories, including:
- a train station and nearby streets;
- familiar local landmarks;
- a park where Yuji played;
- a department store and movie theater;
- rural landscapes;
- a farm and other scenes connected to ordinary life.
That imagery sharply contrasts with the visual language of other major Domains. Gojo’s Unlimited Void evokes overwhelming information. Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine is a horrifying shrine-like structure associated with slaughter. Yuji’s space looks almost mundane: it is built from the places, routines, relationships, and memories that formed him.

What does Yuji’s Domain do?
Its combat function is tied to Yuji’s use of Shrine, the cursed technique he develops after gaining a connection to Sukuna’s abilities. In particular, Yuji learns to use Dismantle against the boundary between souls.
That distinction is crucial. Yuji is not merely trying to cut Sukuna’s body. Sukuna is occupying Megumi Fushiguro’s body, so a normal attack risks harming the vessel along with the possessor. Yuji’s specialized Dismantle is aimed at the connection between Sukuna and Megumi, giving him a chance to separate them.
Outside a Domain, applying that attack precisely is difficult. Yuji had needed direct contact and favorable circumstances to target the soul boundary. Inside his Domain, the sure-hit effect makes the attack unavoidable unless Sukuna uses an anti-Domain technique or otherwise disrupts the Domain’s operation.

A useful distinction is:
- The landscape is the Domain’s personal, symbolic environment, formed from Yuji’s memories.
- The sure-hit effect is the combat application of Yuji’s Shrine technique, including the Dismantle that targets the separation between Sukuna and Megumi.
The manga does not state that the scenery itself is a separate attack, a binding vow, or a second cursed technique.
Is the conversation with Sukuna part of the Domain’s power?
The manga never confirms that Yuji’s Domain automatically forces every opponent into a therapeutic conversation or a guided tour of Yuji’s memories.
The conversation is better understood as the Domain’s manifested environment and as the narrative expression of Yuji’s final attempt to reach Sukuna. Yuji shows Sukuna the ordinary life that Sukuna dismisses: family, food, animals, local places, childhood activities, and the small memories that remain after people are gone.
When Sukuna rejects Yuji’s appeal, the encounter returns to combat. Nothing in the published manga establishes that the Domain is inherently pacifist or that its sure-hit effect becomes harmless while the conversation is taking place. It is still a combat Domain, and its sure-hit attack is central to Yuji’s strategy.

Chapter 265 connects Yuji’s memories to his changing understanding of human value. Earlier, Yuji was often driven by the idea that he should give people a proper death or fulfill the role assigned to him. By the final battle, his view has become broader: a person’s worth is not limited to their function, status, or the manner of their death.
People also matter because of the traces they leave in other people’s memories. A meal, a walk, a movie, a family story, or a familiar place may seem insignificant on a cosmic scale, but those fragments are part of what makes an individual life real.
This is the ideological opposite of Sukuna’s worldview. Sukuna treats other people as disposable and sees strength, appetite, and self-gratification as sufficient reasons to live. Yuji’s Domain surrounds him with the mundane human world Sukuna refuses to value.
That contrast gives the Domain its emotional force. Yuji is not claiming that ordinary memories magically solve every moral problem. He is showing Sukuna what Sukuna has consistently rejected: that relationships and small experiences can give life meaning even when they offer no power or practical advantage.
How did Yuji unlock Domain Expansion?
The manga does not provide a long, explicit training sequence explaining exactly when Yuji learned Domain Expansion. His activation comes after his rapid growth during the Shinjuku battle and the one-month preparation period before the final confrontation.
During that preparation, Yuji receives accelerated instruction and body-swap training. He improves his cursed-energy control, learns New Shadow Style: Simple Domain, and develops his use of Reverse Cursed Technique. Those advances establish the period in which his abilities grow dramatically, but they do not prove that a particular mentor directly taught him Domain Expansion.
The most defensible explanation is that Yuji reaches the threshold for Domain Expansion after awakening and refining several connected abilities:
- his Shrine-based technique;
- his ability to use Dismantle against the boundary between souls;
- his growing understanding of cursed energy and his own identity;
- the experience and pressure of the battle against Sukuna.
The exact moment of mastery is deliberately underexplained. Claims that Gojo, Kusakabe, Todo, or another specific character directly taught Yuji this Domain should be treated as interpretation unless the manga explicitly supports them.

Is Yuji’s Domain the same as Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine?
No. Yuji’s Domain is related to Sukuna’s because both are connected to the Shrine cursed technique, but the manga does not identify them as the same Domain or say that Yuji inherited Sukuna’s exact Domain construction.
Sukuna’s Domain is explicitly named Malevolent Shrine. It is associated with shrine imagery and is famous for its open-barrier operation. Yuji’s Domain is unnamed and takes the form of a personal memory landscape.
The safest reading is that Yuji has created his own expansion of Shrine, shaped by his own soul, experiences, and identity. The shared technique does not require the two Domains to look alike or function identically.

Why is Sukuna especially vulnerable to Yuji’s Domain?
Sukuna’s possession of Megumi creates the specific vulnerability Yuji’s Domain exploits. The battle involves two linked but distinct problems:
- defeating or weakening Sukuna’s manifested presence;
- breaking the connection that allows Sukuna to control Megumi’s body.
Yuji’s soul-targeting Dismantle addresses the second problem. Rather than treating Megumi as an ordinary target, Yuji attacks the boundary that separates the two souls. The Domain’s sure-hit effect gives him repeated opportunities to strike that point.
Chapter 266 shows Sukuna trying to maintain Hollow Wicker Basket, an anti-Domain technique used to defend against the sure-hit effect. Maintaining it while also fighting Yuji is difficult. Yuji’s repeated attacks put pressure on Sukuna’s defenses, while Megumi begins resisting from within, further weakening Sukuna’s control.
The Domain is therefore strategically decisive, but it is not a complete solo victory. Later, Nobara uses Resonance against Sukuna’s last finger at a critical moment, disrupting him when he needs to respond. Megumi’s resistance, Yuji’s attacks, Nobara’s intervention, and the efforts of the surviving sorcerers all contribute to the final separation of Sukuna and Megumi.
What happens after Yuji’s Domain?
Yuji’s Domain creates the opening needed for the final exchange, but its appearance does not instantly end the fight. Sukuna continues trying to resist the sure-hit effect and preserve his control of Megumi.

As the battle progresses, the combination of Yuji’s soul-targeting attacks, Megumi’s internal resistance, and Nobara’s Resonance against Sukuna’s final finger prevents Sukuna from fully recovering control. Yuji ultimately lands the decisive sequence that separates Sukuna from Megumi.
This matters when evaluating the Domain’s role. It is the technique that makes Yuji’s intended solution possible, but the victory depends on coordinated actions rather than one isolated power-up.

The manga ends with Chapter 271 and does not provide a later official clarification or name. Several details remain unresolved:
- the Domain’s official name, if it has one;
- its complete barrier design from an outside perspective;
- whether the hometown scenery is always the same;
- whether the environment was tailored to Sukuna or to the circumstances of this specific activation;
- whether the memory-tour conversation is a standard property of the Domain;
- the full range of Yuji’s Domain outside the Sukuna battle;
- whether Yuji can reproduce it reliably after the fight.
Those unanswered questions are not evidence that the Domain has a secret official name or an automatically nonlethal effect. They are simply areas where the original manga stops short of giving a complete technical explanation.

Where to read the reveal
The Domain first appears in Chapter 264 and is explained thematically in Chapter 265, with its combat function becoming especially important in Chapter 266 and the chapters that follow. Readers who want the complete late-Sukuna battle can find the material in Jujutsu Kaisen Vol. 30, the final English print volume of the original manga. It contains the concluding portion of the story; it is not a separate guidebook or technical manual about Domain Expansion.
For readers starting from the beginning, the complete manga collection is the better choice. For readers focused specifically on Yuji’s Domain and the ending, Volume 30 is the direct match.
Canon answer in one sentence
Yuji’s unnamed Domain Expansion is a memory-based landscape representing his belief in ordinary human connection, while its sure-hit effect applies his soul-targeting Shrine Dismantle to the boundary between Sukuna and Megumi.
Frequently Asked Questions

It first appears at the end of Chapter 264, during Yuji’s battle with Sukuna. Chapter 265 explains the meaning of its memory-based setting.
Is Yuji’s Domain the same as Malevolent Shrine?
No. It is connected to Shrine, but the manga does not say that Yuji’s Domain is Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine. Yuji’s version is unnamed and takes the form of his personal memories.
What does Yuji’s Domain do?
Its sure-hit effect applies Yuji’s Dismantle to the boundary between Sukuna’s soul and Megumi’s soul. That lets Yuji attack the possession link rather than indiscriminately damage Megumi’s body.
Does Yuji’s Domain force opponents into a conversation?
The manga does not clearly establish that the conversation is a standard ability or that the Domain automatically makes opponents talk. It is the manifested environment and Yuji’s final attempt to show Sukuna the value of ordinary life.
The Bottom Line
Yuji’s Domain is not officially called “Benevolent Shrine,” and it is not confirmed to be the same as Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine. Its scenery is Yuji’s inner world; its combat purpose is to make his soul-targeting Dismantle unavoidable, allowing him to separate Sukuna from Megumi without treating Megumi’s body as the enemy.
