Spoilers ahead: Dabura reaches sub-light combat speed in Chapter 19, but Mahoraga survives through its wheel—and Yuji Itadori returns in the final pages.

Spoiler warning: This Chapter 19 preview discusses the full Dabura–Mahoraga fight and the chapter’s ending, including Yuji Itadori’s return.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 19, “Rapid Strides” finally shows what happens when Dabura Karaba pushes his Light-based cursed technique toward its physical limit. He accelerates to a sub-light speed, overwhelms Mahoraga with a devastating close-range attack, and destroys several Tokyo city blocks. But the attack still cannot finish the shikigami: Mahoraga’s wheel turns, and the surviving fragment regenerates.

The chapter then ends with a second major escalation. As the sorcerers confront Simurians while dealing with cursed spirits fleeing Tokyo, a hooded figure fires an unusually controlled spread of Piercing Blood. Mino recognizes the attacker as Yuji Itadori.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 19 release information

Chapter 19 is officially listed by VIZ with an English release date of January 25, 2026. In the Japanese serialization schedule, it falls within the January 26 issue-date window. The chapter is commonly titled Rapid Strides, translating the Japanese title 長足の進歩, and runs for 19 pages.

Dabura appears on the chapter cover. VIZ’s archive places Chapter 19 between Chapter 18, released January 18, and Chapter 20, released February 1. The chapter is part of the completed short-run Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo sequel or spinoff, written by Gege Akutami and illustrated by Yuji Iwasaki.

Readers who want the licensed version should use the official VIZ/Shonen Jump chapter archive rather than relying on summaries. The detailed scene account below is a spoiler analysis, not a substitute for the official chapter’s exact dialogue or lettering.

Dabura reaches sub-light speed

Chapter 18 established the problem: Dabura’s body cannot safely withstand full acceleration to the speed of light. After Mahoraga adapts to his more conventional attacks, Dabura chooses a more direct solution—use his Light technique to push his own physical movement as close to that limit as he can, then rely on raw speed and strength.

Chapter 19 follows through on that decision. Dabura accelerates so rapidly that Mahoraga cannot immediately respond. The manga depicts the movement with afterimages, violent environmental destruction, and the physical consequences of forcing a body through the air at extreme velocity. This is a combat application of the technique, not merely a claim that Dabura can travel quickly from one location to another.

The most accurate description is therefore sub-light-speed or near-light combat movement. The chapter does not establish that Dabura reaches the exact speed of light, and it certainly does not establish faster-than-light movement.

Why the air becomes Dabura’s enemy

The chapter’s explanation of air resistance is important to understanding the feat. At ordinary speeds, air behaves as a fluid that can flow around a moving object. At the velocity Dabura is attempting, the resistance becomes so severe that the air effectively functions like a solid barrier in front of him.

That creates two connected problems:

  • Environmental resistance: Dabura must force his body through air that is no longer behaving like an ordinary atmosphere.
  • Physical strain: The acceleration and resistance place extreme stress on his body, preventing him from casually sustaining true light speed.

The afterimages and destruction around him are consequently not just visual shorthand for “Dabura is fast.” They communicate that his movement is producing enormous effects in the surrounding environment. His technique gives him an extraordinary burst of combat acceleration, but the same conditions that make the attack powerful also make it dangerous to use.

Dabura’s attack nearly destroys Mahoraga

Dabura’s high-speed assault culminates in a powerful kick. The impact triggers a massive explosion and destroys multiple blocks of Tokyo. For a moment, it appears that Mahoraga has been completely overwhelmed.

What remains of the shikigami is reduced to a small fragment beneath its wheel. That is a major display of Dabura’s offensive power: he can physically overpower Mahoraga and inflict catastrophic area damage in a single attack. However, it is not a decisive victory.

Mahoraga’s wheel turns, and the fragment regenerates. The scene reinforces the specific problem Dabura has been facing throughout the fight: overwhelming force can create an opening, but Mahoraga’s adaptation and regeneration make that opening difficult to convert into a permanent defeat.

Does Chapter 19 prove Dabura is faster than light?

No. Chapter 19 supports a sub-light or near-light interpretation, not a confirmed faster-than-light one.

The feat has four clearly supported parts:

  1. Acceleration: Dabura uses his Light technique to increase his movement speed dramatically.
  2. Combat use: He applies that speed to a close-range attack against Mahoraga.
  3. Physical consequences: The movement produces afterimages, heating and destruction, while air resistance becomes a serious obstacle.
  4. A stated ceiling: Reaching the actual speed of light is portrayed as dangerous or beyond what Dabura’s body can safely endure.

That combination makes “Dabura can attack at sub-light speed” a defensible summary. It does not justify saying that he can freely travel at light speed, move faster than light, or maintain the same velocity indefinitely.

It also does not mean that every Light-based attack in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo moves at the same speed. This scene specifically shows Dabura accelerating his body through the air and suffering the consequences. It does not create a universal rule for every projectile, cursed technique, or character’s reaction speed.

Why exact powerscaling numbers are not confirmed

Some fan analyses may attempt to calculate Dabura’s exact velocity, air drag, impact energy, or the percentage of light speed represented by the scene. Those calculations can be entertaining, but they are extrapolations rather than measurements supplied by the chapter.

Nothing in the available chapter evidence confirms a precise figure such as 75%, 90%, or 99% of the speed of light. A careful reading should separate the canon claim—Dabura pushes his Light technique to sub-light combat movement—from speculative physics calculations built on panel dimensions or assumed distances.

The chapter also does not prove that Dabura could cross planetary distances instantaneously. His feat is best understood as a short-range, high-risk burst used to strike an opponent before that opponent can react.

Mahoraga turns a blitz into an endurance battle

It would be too simple to describe the fight as “Dabura blitzes Mahoraga.” Dabura does gain an overwhelming opening, and Mahoraga is temporarily reduced to a fragment. But the wheel’s regeneration prevents the attack from ending the confrontation.

The battle’s real structure is a contest between escalation and adaptation:

  • Dabura raises his physical output until he can overwhelm Mahoraga directly.
  • The attack produces devastating collateral damage and appears to destroy the shikigami.
  • Mahoraga’s wheel activates its survival mechanism.
  • Mahoraga returns, leaving Dabura without the decisive finish he wanted.

Chapter 19 therefore raises Dabura’s offensive ceiling without resolving the matchup. He has shown that Mahoraga cannot simply ignore his speed or withstand his strongest physical assault without consequence. At the same time, Mahoraga has shown that surviving the attack is enough to keep the fight going.

Yuji Itadori returns at the end of the chapter

The Dabura–Mahoraga confrontation is not the only major development. Elsewhere, the jujutsu sorcerers are attempting to deal with cursed spirits fleeing Tokyo. They encounter Simurians who intend to stop them, setting up another confrontation.

Then a hooded figure intervenes. The attacker uses Piercing Blood, but the technique is presented differently from a single, straightforward stream. Multiple blood projectiles or streams home into the building and strike the people inside. The display suggests unusually precise control over the attack’s direction and spread.

Mino identifies the hooded figure as Yuji Itadori. His appearance is the chapter’s closing shock and changes the balance of the story immediately. Dabura’s fight has established a new physical extreme, while Yuji arrives as a veteran sorcerer whose technique control and presentation demand attention.

The ending does not resolve either conflict. Mahoraga remains active, Dabura has not secured a final victory, and Yuji has entered the wider confrontation with a devastating first display.

What Chapter 19 changes about the power scale

Chapter 19 gives Dabura one of his clearest offensive showcases, but its implications should be kept specific.

Claim What the chapter supports
Dabura’s movement speed Sub-light or near-light acceleration through his Light technique
Dabura’s attack range A close-range physical assault with severe local collateral damage
Dabura’s durability He can attempt the acceleration, but the strain makes the technique dangerous
Mahoraga’s durability It can be reduced to a fragment and still regenerate when the wheel turns
Universal speed scaling Not established; the feat should not automatically apply to every attack or character
Faster-than-light movement Not established

The strongest defensible conclusion is that Dabura can briefly convert his Light technique into an almost impossibly fast physical attack, but the technique has meaningful costs and Mahoraga’s adaptation prevents brute force from guaranteeing victory.

Where Chapter 19 fits in the collected story

The official Shonen Jump material later grouped the Dabura–Mahoraga confrontation and Yuji’s appearance into the synopsis for the third Japanese collected volume. That confirms that these events belong to the same collected-story segment.

Readers who prefer print can look for the Japanese Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Volume 3, while noting that this is a Japanese-language edition and that availability can vary by retailer and region. Digital readers should distinguish that physical collection from the official English chapter release through VIZ/Shonen Jump.

Final verdict on Dabura’s Chapter 19 feat

Dabura’s Light technique lets him accelerate his body to sub-light speeds and land an attack powerful enough to devastate several Tokyo blocks and reduce Mahoraga to a fragment. The scene is a major upgrade to his demonstrated combat ceiling.

But the chapter deliberately gives the feat limits. Air resistance behaves like a solid barrier, Dabura’s body strains under the acceleration, and the manga frames true light speed as a dangerous threshold rather than a casual capability. Mahoraga’s wheel then turns and regenerates the shikigami, proving that raw speed and force alone are not enough to end the battle.

In the final pages, Yuji Itadori’s controlled Piercing Blood attack adds a second layer of danger. Chapter 19 is therefore less a victory chapter for one fighter than an escalation chapter: Dabura reaches a new extreme, Mahoraga survives it, and Yuji re-enters the conflict at exactly the moment the situation becomes more unstable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Dabura faster than light in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 19?

No. Chapter 19 depicts Dabura pushing his body toward the speed of light, but the safer canon description is sub-light or near-light combat movement. It does not confirm faster-than-light travel or a precise percentage of light speed.

What happens to Mahoraga after Dabura’s attack?

Dabura’s high-speed kick and resulting explosion reduce Mahoraga to a small fragment beneath its wheel. The wheel then turns, allowing Mahoraga to regenerate, so Dabura does not decisively win the fight.

How does Yuji return at the end of Chapter 19?

Yuji appears as a hooded figure and uses Piercing Blood. The attack is shown as multiple blood projectiles or streams that home into a building, and Mino recognizes the attacker as Yuji Itadori.

When was Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 19 released?

The chapter is officially listed by VIZ for January 25, 2026, while the Japanese serialization falls in the January 26 issue-date window. It is commonly titled “Rapid Strides,” or 長足の進歩 in Japanese.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Chapter 19 supports calling Dabura’s movement sub-light speed, not faster than light. His Light technique gives him a devastating, short-range burst that nearly destroys Mahoraga, but air resistance and bodily strain limit the feat, while Mahoraga’s wheel allows the shikigami to regenerate. The chapter ends with Yuji Itadori returning and unleashing a wide, controlled Piercing Blood attack.
