What Light said makes the arrangement work
In an interview with PEOPLE published by Yahoo on October 26, 2024, Light said she primarily lived in New York while Desiderio was in California. She described their routine plainly: “We talk every day. We FaceTime every day.” The report establishes what Light said about that period; it does not verify where either lives now.
Daily contact without giving up solitude
Light said both of them appreciate being alone: “He loves to be alone, and I love to be alone.” In a 2019 interview with Rachel Syme for The New Yorker, she similarly spoke of having lives they love both together and apart. “We adore each other. We want to stay together,” she said. Together, her accounts suggest that regular connection and independence can coexist in their relationship.
Staying with hard conversations
Light also said they do not simply avoid upsetting topics. They keep talking, though sometimes they pause and agree to return to the conversation. “Sometimes we have to take a break,” she said in the 2024 interview. Her account describes a way the couple handles conflict; it is not evidence that the same approach will work for everyone.

Supporting work that matters to each other
Light connected their happiness in part to Desiderio doing work he loves. She said he stepped away from acting to focus on writing. The 2024 article reports that his first novel, The Occurrence, was published in 2020.
Who are Judith Light and Robert Desiderio?
Light, an actor, met Desiderio while she was working on One Life to Live, according to the 2024 PEOPLE article. Fox News reports that they married in 1985. A 2002 Los Angeles Times profile described Desiderio as Light’s husband of 17 years and reported that he joined her on a trek in South Africa.
The “39-year marriage” description belongs to 2024 coverage, not a current count. The latest reporting cited here about their separate residences is also from 2024, so their living arrangements in 2026 are unverified.

Light’s comments offer a glimpse of how she and Desiderio have approached distance: frequent communication, room for solitude, and a willingness to return to hard conversations after a break. They are her descriptions of their own marriage, not a tested prescription or statistical evidence about long-distance relationships.
