The segment is “Jon Stewart on Who Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill Really Helps — and Hurts,” published by The Daily Show on July 7, 2025. Its official description says Stewart discusses the bill’s passage, Republicans’ changing positions, tax-cut negotiations, a $40 billion infusion for ICE, and effects on Medicaid and SNAP. The listing summarizes the subject; it does not provide a transcript, so the title’s description of Stewart as “genuinely angry” should be understood as a characterization, not a verified account of his emotional state. Watch the official segment.
What Jon Stewart’s segment is about
The segment takes up the political debate over President Donald Trump’s “big beautiful bill,” focusing on who may benefit from its provisions and who may bear costs. The Daily Show’s official listing identifies the subjects but does not include a transcript or establish the exact wording of Stewart’s remarks. It is therefore best treated as political commentary on the law, not as a source for precise policy claims or quotations.
The bill’s effects depend on which provision and population are being discussed. Tax provisions, spending reductions, immigration enforcement funding, Medicaid, and SNAP are distinct parts of the debate; a claim about one should not be generalized to the whole package without specifying its basis.
What budget and program estimates say
Deficits: CBO estimate for the House-passed version
The Congressional Budget Office’s dynamic estimate for the House-passed H.R. 1 projected that it would increase deficits by $2.8 trillion over 2025–2034, including estimated macroeconomic and interest-rate effects. This is a projection for that version of the bill and period, not a measure of an observed result. CBO cautioned that the estimate is uncertain because implementation and behavioral responses may differ from its assumptions. Read CBO’s estimate.

Coverage and SNAP: projections for the enacted package
The Associated Press reported that CBO projected the enacted package would leave 11.8 million more people uninsured and 3 million fewer people eligible for SNAP by 2034. Those are projected effects, not counts already observed. AP described the package sent to the president as 887 pages and covering tax breaks, spending cuts, military spending, deportation funding, and other Republican priorities. Read the Associated Press report.
How political leaders framed the bill
Supporters and critics made competing political arguments; those arguments are not the same thing as agency estimates.
