John Cena initially imagined a retirement tour of more than 200 dates, but he said WWE’s reduced live-event schedule and its rejection of his proposed business plan led him to accept a different format. WWE President Nick Khan, meanwhile, said Cena and Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque worked together on the tour’s creative direction and had no disputes. Those are accounts of two different parts of the process: Cena described the plan’s scale and business model; Khan described its creative collaboration.
What was John Cena’s original retirement-tour plan?
Cena said he first pictured more than 200 dates, based on the WWE schedule he had known earlier in his career. In remarks to WWE interviewer Tom Rinaldi, transcribed by Fightful, he said: “I initially wanted to do 200+ dates because that was the WWE I was used to, but that’s not the way things work anymore as WWE has cut down on live events.” Fightful’s transcript of Cena’s remarks
He also said he had pitched a detailed business proposal with specifications and projected revenue. As Cena recalled it: “I pitched ‘X’ and specs and ‘This is what I think the projected revenue is. Not just talking WWE story out of my butt. ‘Hey, I think this is a good business plan.’ ‘That’s not our business.’ Okay, I just torch that plan.” He said he set the proposal aside and agreed to a different plan he could balance. His account explains why he changed his initial idea; it does not establish who made every decision about dates, matches, or finishes.
Who handled the farewell tour’s creative direction?
Khan said Cena and Triple H worked together on the creative direction. Speaking on Logan Paul’s IMPAULSIVE podcast, Khan denied disputes over how the tour should end or how it was carried out: “It’s he and Triple H together, but there has not been a dispute. I don’t mean, ‘No, no, let’s end with this. No, let’s end this way.’ There’s not been a dispute with John Cena since he announced his retirement tour, prior to that, by the way, or since he’s executed upon his retirement tour. Smooth.” Fightful’s transcript of Khan’s comments

The contrast is between Cena’s initial vision and the business plan that went forward, not a disagreement with Khan’s account of creative collaboration. Cena said his original scale and revenue proposal did not fit WWE’s business; Khan said he and Triple H worked with Cena on the tour’s creative direction. Neither account, on its own, answers who determined every detail.
What the published numbers do—and do not—measure
WWE reported that Cena’s retirement announcement generated more than 65 million social-media views in its first 24 hours, making it the company’s most-viewed social segment since WrestleMania XL. WWE also reported that Money in the Bank 2024 viewership was up 46 percent from the prior year’s record-setting number, and that more than 45,000 fans attended four events during the Thursday-to-Sunday Toronto weekend. These are company-published figures about the announcement and event weekend, not tour-wide attendance or revenue totals.
