JioHotstar is the unified Indian streaming service created from JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar. It launched on February 14, 2025, after Reliance and Disney combined their Indian media businesses. For new subscribers, the latest official pricing (effective January 28, 2026) starts at ₹79 a month for Mobile and reaches ₹299 a month for Premium. Existing subscribers may still be on older plans and prices if auto-renewal remains active.
What happened to JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar?
The change followed an India-focused Reliance–Disney joint venture combining Viacom18 and Star India businesses, rather than a worldwide Disney–Reliance merger. JioCinema was associated with Viacom18; Disney+ Hotstar was Disney Star’s Indian streaming service. The consumer-facing result is JioHotstar, not two separate competing apps.
JioStar’s launch announcement described JioHotstar as the destination bringing both services’ content together. Existing customers were invited to transition and set up access on the new platform. The practical step now is to use JioHotstar and verify the account attached to your former subscription.
JioHotstar prices for new subscribers
JioStar’s latest official plan announcement applies these prices to new subscriptions from January 28, 2026. Amounts are in Indian rupees and are recurring only according to the billing interval selected.

The Mobile Hollywood add-on costs ₹49 monthly, ₹129 quarterly or ₹399 annually. The prices and benefits above come from JioStar’s January 2026 announcement.
Which plan fits your viewing?
Mobile: cheapest phone-only access
Choose Mobile if one person mainly watches on a smartphone, accepts advertising and wants the lowest standalone price. It permits one mobile device at a time, and Hollywood requires the add-on. The annual combination of Mobile (₹499) plus Hollywood (₹399) totals ₹898—less than Super annual—but still has the mobile-only restriction.

Super: two-device households and included Hollywood
Super is the first tier with Hollywood in the base price and supports up to two simultaneous devices, making it suitable for a couple or a small household using phones, a browser and supported living-room devices. It remains ad-supported.
Premium: larger households and fewer on-demand ads
Premium supports up to four devices and includes Hollywood. Its ad-free promise applies to entertainment, not every stream: the official description excludes live sports and other live programming. It is therefore aimed at families or viewers who value broader device access and fewer advertisements in on-demand viewing.

What existing subscribers should check
The launch announcement said JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar customers could transition to JioHotstar. JioStar’s later pricing notice says existing subscribers keep their current plans and prices while auto-renewal remains active. That does not guarantee identical benefits for every account: the original plan, billing channel, promotion and migration status matter.
- Open the JioHotstar account page and confirm the active tier.
- Check the expiry or next-renewal date and whether auto-renewal is enabled.
- Use the same phone number or email associated with the former service.
- Determine whether access comes from a Jio, broadband or other telecom bundle instead of a separately billed subscription.
The ₹149 quarterly figure often shown in older articles was launch-era pricing highlighted in February 2025. It should not be treated as the universal current price for new customers after the January 2026 revision.

What content is on JioHotstar?
The combined service covers Indian television, regional-language programming, films, originals, live sports, anime, children’s shows and licensed international programming. The launch material names content relationships involving Disney, NBCUniversal Peacock, Warner Bros. Discovery HBO and Paramount, but rights are licensed and can change. A studio’s ownership of a title does not guarantee that every title is permanently available or included in every plan.
JioStar reported more than 300,000 hours of programming in 19 languages from over 100 network channels in its January 2026 announcement. Those are company-reported figures, not an independent catalogue audit.

Jio recharge bundles
Some Jio prepaid offers include JioHotstar Mobile + Hollywood rather than Super or Premium. The official terms state that, from May 20, 2026, qualifying customers include those recharging with ₹349-and-above plans carrying 2GB/day and ₹399 plans carrying at least 2.5GB/day, subject to the offer’s validity and conditions. Check the Jio offer terms and current prepaid plan page before recharging.
Eligible prepaid customers must sign in to the JioHotstar app with the mobile number on which the qualifying plan was activated, according to Jio’s prepaid terms. Compare the full recharge cost with a standalone subscription; the OTT entitlement is tied to the specified offer period and may not renew like a direct subscription.
Fixing common account and playback problems
Former JioCinema entitlement is missing
- Update or reinstall the official JioHotstar app.
- Sign in with the original phone number or email, trying the other identity if both were used.
- Check the account page for plan name, expiry and device entitlement.
- If access came through Jio, inspect MyJio for the relevant offer or coupon.
- Do not buy a second subscription until the original entitlement and billing channel are confirmed.
- Contact JioHotstar or Jio support with the transaction ID, registered number and recharge details.
Premium still shows advertising
This may be expected when watching live sports or another live programme. Premium’s ad-free wording excludes those streams; it is not a blanket promise that every broadcast contains no advertising.
Playback is blocked on another screen
Check the simultaneous-device entitlement: one mobile stream on Mobile, two devices on Super and four on Premium. “Devices at a time” describes concurrent viewing, not necessarily the number of devices that can be registered.

Use Mobile for solo phone viewing, add Hollywood only if that catalogue matters, choose Super for two-screen households that want Hollywood included, and choose Premium for up to four simultaneous devices and fewer ads in on-demand entertainment. Before paying directly, check whether a Jio recharge already supplies Mobile + Hollywood. If you are an existing customer, verify your legacy plan and auto-renewal status rather than assuming the new-subscriber table applies.
