ABC and Jimmy Kimmel have reportedly begun discussions about renewing Jimmy Kimmel Live!, but no signed renewal or final terms have been reported. TheWrap said the talks concern the show’s future after the 2026–27 television season; the program is still airing on ABC in October 2026.
What the negotiations mean
TheWrap reported on September 11, 2026, that ABC had entered renewal discussions with Kimmel. The show was expected to continue through the 2026–27 season, so the reported talks are about what comes afterward—not an announcement that the series is ending now. ABC declined to comment to TheWrap at the time, and the report said it had reached out to Kimmel. TheWrap’s report

TheWrap described the show’s 2025 agreement as a one-year deal, rather than its typical three-year contract. That is background to the timing of the talks, not evidence of the length or terms of any new agreement.
Has Jimmy Kimmel Live! been renewed?
A renewal has not been confirmed in the cited reporting. The available sources do not establish whether either side has made a final offer or signed an agreement, nor do they disclose contract length, compensation, or creative and editorial conditions. The phrase “major step forward” can describe the reported start of negotiations, but should not be read as confirmation that a deal is done.

Is the show ending soon?
The reported expectation is that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will continue through the 2026–27 television season. ABC’s official program page lists October 2026 episodes, including an October 8 episode, and describes the show as a weeknight program. That confirms it is active in October; it does not settle its future after the season. ABC’s episode and program page
Why the 2025 suspension is part of the context
In September 2025, ABC suspended production after Kimmel’s comments about Charlie Kirk’s killing. The Walt Disney Company later said the show would return after conversations with Kimmel. ABC News reproduced the company’s explanation: “Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country.”
Disney also said: “It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive.” The company added: “We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.” ABC News’ report on Disney’s statement
The Associated Press reported that Kimmel’s then-current contract was set to expire in May 2026. The available reporting does not say whether the 2025 suspension is a factor in the present renewal discussions. Associated Press coverage
