Jewel Thief – The Heist Begins is a 2025 Hindi-language heist action film on Netflix, built around a plan to steal the African Red Sun diamond. Its premise offers the ingredients for a slick caper, but the critical response points to a familiar, lazily assembled plot rather than a suspenseful, character-led one. Saif Ali Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat give viewers a reason to be curious; the available criticism says Ahlawat is underused, and does not establish a detailed performance verdict for Khan.

What is Jewel Thief – The Heist Begins about?
Netflix’s synopsis centers on Rehan, a con artist who devises a diamond heist while trying to outsmart Rajan. The Netflix Media Center logline specifies that Rehan is hired by a crime lord to steal the African Red Sun diamond, but the plan takes a wild turn. The setup promises a criminal scheme, competing agendas and reversals; whether those elements create convincing suspense is where critical response raises doubts. Do Saif Ali Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat make it worth watching?
They are the main draw, but the available evidence supports a more cautious answer than a blanket recommendation based on the cast. Netflix names Saif Ali Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat and Nikita Dutta as stars. A Rotten Tomatoes page reproducing an IndieWire excerpt by Proma Khosla says the film “tragically underuses Ahlawat, who chews scenery impressively as a villain but lacks any real depth or motivation.” That is a specific criticism of Ahlawat’s role, not proof that the film gives either lead a satisfying character arc.
The consulted critic excerpts do not provide enough detail to make a scene-by-scene assessment of Khan’s performance. If the appeal for you is watching both actors carry a sharply written caper, the criticism on hand offers little reassurance. If you are content to sample a star-led heist premise without expecting substantial character development, you may still find it worth a one-evening try. [Rotten Tomatoes]

How have critics responded?
Rotten Tomatoes showed a 5% Tomatometer from 20 critic reviews when checked on October 8, 2026. This is a time-sensitive aggregator score, not a measure of audience opinion, and both the score and review count can change. It indicates that the listed critics were largely negative; it should not be treated as a precise verdict on every viewer’s experience. [Rotten Tomatoes]
The short excerpts reproduced on that page focus on the writing and the use of Ahlawat. Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express writes that “this film is so lazily constructed that it doesn’t even bother thinking of a new or even a new-ish title…and then proceeds to cobble together a plot in which every scene and sequence has been done to death…” Anupama Chopra of The Hollywood Reporter India sums up her assessment as “Low on sparkle.” These are attributed critical judgments, not an independent analysis of individual scenes.
