He shared the account with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show on April 29, 2025, the day his memoir My Next Breath was released, according to AOL’s report.
Why Renner returned to the snowcat
In the interview, Renner described confronting fear directly: “I go right into the eye of the storm of any fear or anything,” he said. “I didn’t want this thing to haunt me or own me by any means.” That was his explanation for getting back on the machine; the interview account does not establish a medical outcome or say that returning resolved the effects of the accident.
What he saw when he stepped off
Renner said driving the snowcat again was not difficult, comparing the machine to a tank. Getting off it was more striking. “It was just interesting getting off of it because you have to step on the tracks to get off this thing. And I saw, like, little pieces of my clothing in it still. And some other things that I don’t want to say.”
AOL’s April 30, 2025 report reproduces these remarks from the April 29 interview. The report says the snowcat weighed 14,300 pounds and that Renner suffered more than 35 broken bones; those figures are attributed to People in AOL’s account. The quotations and figures here reflect that secondary report.

The interview and his memoir
Renner’s appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon coincided with the April 29, 2025 release of My Next Breath, his memoir. The book offers readers a longer account of his experience; the snowcat comments above are the specific explanation he gave for returning to the machine.
