News reports said Jaquelin Carrieri, an Argentine former beauty queen and actress, died in Los Angeles in early October 2023 after cosmetic surgery. Relatives or acquaintances attributed her death to a blood clot, while Infobae described it as a stroke presumed to be associated with the surgery. The available reports do not establish a medically confirmed cause of death.
What was reported about Jaquelin Carrieri’s death?
LA NACION, Infobae and PerthNow reported that Carrieri died after a complication following cosmetic surgery. Their accounts attributed the clot explanation to people close to her or to relatives. Infobae also characterized the event as a stroke presumed to have been caused by surgery. These are reported accounts, not a published medical or coroner determination.
The reports do not establish the exact procedure, clinical course or certified cause of death. A clot, a stroke, a pulmonary embolism and a fat embolism are not interchangeable diagnoses; the available coverage does not justify treating them as the same event.
When and where did she die?
News outlets placed Carrieri’s death in Los Angeles, California, in early October 2023. Reinas de San Rafael announced her death on October 2, according to coverage reproducing its statement; PerthNow said she died on Sunday in California, while LA NACION and Infobae reported Los Angeles. “In early October 2023” reflects the accounts without resolving their slight differences in date wording.

What does medical context on surgery-related clots establish?
A CDC report published January 25, 2024, examined deaths of U.S. citizens who underwent cosmetic surgery in the Dominican Republic from 2009 through 2022. It counted 93 deaths over that period; the figure is a count, not a rate, and concerns a different population and location. It provides no evidence about Carrieri’s procedure or individual cause of death.
