Superman is already streaming on HBO Max
James Gunn’s Superman made its subscription-streaming debut exclusively on HBO Max on September 19, 2025. That date has already passed: as of August 12, 2026, the film is available to stream there rather than being an upcoming release.
The film first became available to buy digitally on August 15, 2025, five weeks before it joined HBO Max. That distinction matters: purchasing or renting the movie from a digital retailer is not the same as watching it through an HBO Max subscription.

Catalogs can vary by country, and streaming rights, pricing and availability can change. The dates above describe the release schedule documented for the film; they should not be read as a guarantee that every edition or feature will appear in every territory. The available sources establish HBO Max as the subscription destination, but they do not establish current availability on Netflix, Hulu, Peacock, Disney+ or other services.
Can you buy Superman digitally?
Yes. The paid digital edition arrived on August 15, 2025, before the HBO Max release. Participating retailers included Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango at Home, along with other digital storefronts. This option is useful if you want to watch without an HBO Max subscription or prefer to purchase the film through a retailer account.
Amazon’s listing identifies the title as Superman (2025) and offers a UHD purchase option. If you choose to buy Superman (2025) digitally, check the retailer page for the current price, format, language options and territory restrictions before completing the purchase. Those details can change and are not the same as subscription access.
Is Superman available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD?
Yes. Warner Bros. released Superman on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on September 23, 2025. A physical copy may make more sense for viewers who want permanent access, collect DC films or do not want to depend on a changing streaming catalog.

The most specific option for collectors is the Superman (2025) 4K UHD Blu-ray. Standard Blu-ray and DVD editions are also available, but equipment requirements differ: 4K UHD requires a compatible 4K disc player and display, while a standard Blu-ray requires a Blu-ray player. Confirm the edition, region compatibility and included discs with the retailer before buying.
What kind of Superman movie is this?
Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman is a 2025 DC Studios feature and the first feature film of the newly imagined DC Universe. David Corenswet plays Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The principal cast also includes Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion and Isabela Merced.
Because this is a new DC Universe starting point, viewers do not need to work through every earlier DC film before watching it. The film is presented as its own new entry rather than as a continuation that requires a complete franchise rewatch.
For collectors and fans
The home-release campaign was accompanied by licensed merchandise and publishing, including toys and collectibles from companies such as Spin Master, Mattel, McFarlane Toys, Funko, Jazwares, Squishmallows and Build-A-Bear. DC also announced related books, apparel, accessories, home goods and other products.
