Spoilers for Superman (2025). Lex Luthor’s plan ends with a threat to Metropolis, but the film’s final answer is personal: Clark chooses the values of the Kent family over the message he inherited from Krypton. The movie also has two brief credits scenes—one with Krypto and one with Mister Terrific—that work as character moments, not essential plot or sequel clues.
What happens at the end of Superman?
After escaping Lex Luthor’s pocket-universe prison, Clark recovers at his childhood home in Kansas. Lex has linked the neighboring countries Boravia and Jarhanpur to a scheme designed to get Superman killed, and he sends Ultraman—revealed to be Superman’s clone—into the conflict.
At the climax, Lex’s pocket-universe technology opens a rift that threatens Metropolis. While Lex keeps Superman occupied, the Justice Gang helps protect Jarhanpur. Superman and Krypto fight Lex’s forces, and Mister Terrific closes the rift. Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen expose Lex’s arrangement; Superman confronts him, and Lex is taken into custody. What does the ending reveal about Clark?
Clark had understood a message attributed to his Kryptonian parents as an instruction to protect humanity. Its final revelation appears to urge him to conquer or rule humanity instead. The film sets that message against Clark’s choices: his origins do not dictate his ethics, and the values he learned from his human upbringing guide him.

In the closing Fortress of Solitude scene, Clark replaces the Kryptonian message with home-video footage of Martha and Jonathan Kent. His smile reads as acceptance of the family and values that formed him—not a rejection of his heritage, but a decision about what kind of person he will be.
Does Supergirl appear in the ending?
Yes. Before the credits, Supergirl arrives at the Fortress, greets Krypto, thanks Clark for looking after him, and leaves. This is the film’s final in-story appearance before the credits roll; it is separate from the two credits scenes.

What are the two Superman credits scenes?

Gunn said he wanted to give audiences “something for having stuck around through the credits,” and described the choice as fun. He also said: “But I don’t want to set up stuff just because it’s a shocking post-credit scene that we’re never going to pay off.” GamesRadar+ reported Gunn’s comments.

No. Gunn named All-Star Superman as one influence, not as the film’s direct source story. In DC’s interview with Gunn, he discussed Frank Quitely’s art being present in the production room, Jamie Grant’s colors influencing the film’s palette, and the comic’s machinery informing Superman’s computer. He also said the film’s Superman robots were based on Quitely’s robots. The collected edition is a relevant companion for readers curious about some visual and design influences, but it is not the film’s plot.
