When did the Karate Kid: Legends trailer come out?
SonyPicturesMéxico published its official trailer on December 17, 2024. Watch the official Karate Kid: Legends trailer on YouTube, or visit the film’s official trailer page.
What is Karate Kid: Legends about?
Sony’s official synopsis introduces Li Fong, a kung fu prodigy who moves with his mother to New York City to attend a new school. A friendship brings him some peace, but he draws the attention of a local karate champion. Li then prepares for a karate competition with help from his kung fu teacher, Mr. Han, and Daniel LaRusso.
Sony describes how the two teachers’ approaches come together: “Guided by the wisdom of his kung fu teacher, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), and the legendary Karate Kid, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), Li merges their unique styles to prepare for an epic martial arts showdown.”

Who returns, and who made the film?
Chan plays Mr. Han, Macchio reprises Daniel LaRusso, and Wang plays Li Fong. The official cast list also includes Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, and Ming-Na Wen. What the film adds to the franchise’s representation story
In an Associated Press report published May 29, 2025, Wang described Li as the franchise’s first Asian American new “Kid.” The AP report also explores the franchise’s history of Asian and Asian American representation, with perspectives from author Jeff Yang and martial artist Ken Nagayama. That is context from Wang and the report’s interviewees, not a claim made by the trailer.
