At a pre-wedding gathering, an estranged friend arrives with a suitcase-sized device that lets the group exchange bodies. What begins as a game exposes hidden desires, grudges and secrets, then turns into an existential nightmare.
What is It’s What’s Inside about?
Friends reunite for a pre-wedding party, but the evening changes when an estranged member of the group brings a mysterious machine. The device enables them to inhabit one another’s bodies, making it impossible to trust appearances or assume that a familiar face contains the person everyone knows.
The swaps force the friends to confront relationships and resentments they have kept buried. Netflix describes the film as a thriller, dark comedy and science-fiction story; “body-swap thriller” is useful shorthand, but it is not simply a conventional horror film.
Who made the film?

| Writer and director | Greg Jardin |
| Producers | William Rosenfeld, Kate Andrews, Jason Baum and Raúl Domingo |
| Executive producers | Colman Domingo, Ulf Ek and Robert Kapp |
The film world-premiered in the Midnight section at Sundance before Netflix acquired it. Jardin has described the original concept as “The Big Chill meets Freaky Friday by way of Black Mirror,” according to an interview quoted by TIME. He later moved the idea from a straightforward science-fiction comedy toward a darker, still-funny tone.

Cast
The principal cast includes:
- Brittany O’Grady
- James Morosini
- Alycia Debnam-Carey
- Devon Terrell

Because the characters repeatedly occupy one another’s bodies, performance and identity are deliberately difficult to separate. The ensemble format makes each interaction part of the mystery: a character may be speaking through a body that belongs to someone else.

What happens at the end? (Spoilers)
The body-swap game becomes lethal. Two people die while inhabiting other participants’ bodies, making the deaths especially confusing: witnesses cannot rely on the body at the scene to identify who has actually died.
The final revelations show that Beatrice had been inside Forbes’s body. After the last exchanges, the surviving identities are redistributed among the available bodies rather than restored to a simple original arrangement. Beatrice ultimately escapes with the machine, leaving the group’s social world—and the question of who can be trusted—permanently shattered.

The ending turns the device from a party-game novelty into a means of controlling identity. Its lasting shock is not only the deaths, but the possibility that a person can leave the gathering in someone else’s body while everyone else accepts the wrong face as evidence.

It is a strong fit if you enjoy ensemble mysteries, escalating twists and stories that use a speculative device to expose relationship damage. The film is less suitable if you want a straightforward thriller with stable points of view, because its central pleasure comes from uncertainty about who is inhabiting whom.
