IT: Welcome to Derry is officially returning for Season 2. HBO announced the renewal on August 17, 2026, and the next chapter will move back to 1935, where the Bradley Gang’s stop in Derry leads them into horror. There is no announced premiere date yet.
Is Welcome to Derry renewed for Season 2?
Yes. HBO renewed the series, with the announcement reported by TVLine on August 17, 2026. That came more than eight months after the Season 1 finale aired on December 14, 2025.
Sarah Aubrey, head of original programming at HBO Max, said in the statement quoted by TVLine: “We are excited to return to the chilling world of Derry and to further expand on Andy and Barbara Muschietti’s horrifically iconic adaptation.”
What is Season 2 about?
Season 2 is set in 1935, during the Great Depression. Its announced premise follows the Bradley Gang, a group of bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy ammunition and encounter horror. This takes the series further back in the town’s history than Season 1.

The show adapts Stephen King’s It, but Season 2’s announced premise is a new chapter in the series’ exploration of Derry’s past. The announcement does not provide a fuller plot synopsis or identify the specific events that follow the gang’s arrival.
Who is making the new season?
TVLine reports that Brad Caleb Kane, who co-showran Season 1 with Jason Fuchs, will lead Season 2 as its sole showrunner. Andy and Barbara Muschietti remain executive producers.

The renewal report also describes a three-season creative blueprint previously outlined by Andy Muschietti: Season 1’s 1962 Black Spot fire, Season 2’s 1935 Bradley Gang massacre, and a possible third chapter centered on the 1908 Easter egg hunt explosion. That plan is not a Season 3 order; HBO has only confirmed Season 2.
When is Welcome to Derry Season 2 coming out?
HBO has not announced a Season 2 premiere date or filming schedule. The August 17 renewal report gives no timetable, so a specific release year or seasonal window should not be treated as confirmed.

Why the renewal is notable
Warner Bros. Discovery Romania described Season 1 as “among the four most-watched series premieres in HBO Max history globally” in its August 19, 2026 announcement. That is the company’s characterization of the show’s performance, not an independently verified audience measurement.
