The new HBO trailer is for the Harry Potter television series, not Hogwarts Legacy 2. Its scenes of Harry’s childhood in the Muggle world reveal nothing about where the game sequel will take place. Warner Bros. Discovery has named a second Hogwarts Legacy installment in its games pipeline, but the available report does not give the sequel a setting, release date, platforms or trailer.
What the HBO trailer actually shows
Wizarding World identifies the footage as the official teaser for HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series, with a debut planned for Christmas 2026. Its trailer explainer describes scenes at the Dursleys’ home, including Harry’s cupboard under the stairs, and a segment titled “Muggle school.” These are parts of Harry’s childhood in the television adaptation, not footage from a game. Wizarding World’s trailer explainer covers the scenes.
The series is an adaptation of Harry Potter’s story, and its first season is identified as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Wizarding World’s series overview provides that description.
What has been disclosed about Hogwarts Legacy 2
A report published August 14, 2026, quotes Warner Bros. Discovery’s Q2 shareholder letter as saying: “We expect Games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy.” The statement names a sequel in the company’s games pipeline; it does not describe a trailer or announce the game’s setting, final title, release date or platforms. GamingBroject’s report attributes the wording to the company’s shareholder letter.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That report is not evidence that HBO’s Christmas 2026 series debut is a game launch date. The television adaptation and game sequel are separate projects, and the trailer’s Muggle-world scenes cannot establish the sequel’s location.
Why the first game does not answer the setting question
The official Hogwarts Legacy site describes the original as an open-world action RPG. Its reveal-trailer description places that game in the 1800s. The official game site and the reveal-trailer description establish context for the first installment, but neither confirms the sequel’s era or location. It would be speculation to assume the next game repeats the original’s setting—or moves into the Muggle world.

What is confirmed, and what remains unknown
| Project | What the available sources establish | What they do not establish |
|---|---|---|
| HBO Harry Potter series | Its teaser shows material from Harry’s childhood, including the Dursley home and Muggle school; the first season is Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. | It is not a Hogwarts Legacy 2 trailer. |
| Hogwarts Legacy 2 | Warner Bros. Discovery’s reported Q2 shareholder-letter wording names a “second installment of Hogwarts Legacy” in its games pipeline. | A final title, setting, release date, platforms and trailer announcement are not stated in the cited report. |
The direct answer is therefore no: the HBO trailer does not tease a Muggle-world setting for Hogwarts Legacy 2. It shows Harry Potter television-series material, while the sequel’s setting remains unconfirmed in the cited sources.
