Spyglass Media Group, the film’s production company, said it had “zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form.” The company’s rationale, as reported by The Independent, also referred to what it characterized as false references to genocide and ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion, or speech crossing into hate. That was Spyglass’s stated explanation for its decision, not an independent finding about Barrera’s posts.

Barrera said she was at peace with her position. She described her posts as coming from “a place of love,” “humanity,” “human rights,” and “freedom for people,” adding that those values “shouldn’t be controversial.” Those are her account of her intent; they do not replace Spyglass’s separate explanation for the decision.

Did Jenna Ortega leave Scream 7 in solidarity with Barrera?
Barrera did not say that Ortega’s departure was an act of solidarity. Asked about Ortega, she called her a good person and said, “She’s a good person and we love each other. She would show up for me and I would show up for her no matter what.” The remark describes their relationship; it does not establish why Ortega left the film.
Why did Jenna Ortega leave Scream 7?
Contemporary coverage cited a scheduling conflict with Netflix’s Wednesday as the reason for Ortega’s exit. A later NME report said Ortega had already planned to leave before Barrera was fired. These accounts do not resolve the cause, so it is not established that Ortega left because of Barrera’s firing—or that scheduling was the sole explanation.

What else happened during the film’s production?
Director Christopher Landon announced his departure in December 2023. The Independent reported that he described the project as a “dream job that turned into a nightmare.” The departures form part of the film’s production context, but the reported sequence does not prove that one person’s exit caused another’s.
Barrera and Ortega had appeared together in Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023), which is the background to the interviewer’s question about their relationship. Barrera’s comments offer a direct description of their friendship, but not confirmation of a solidarity motive.
