The source also alleged that the principal cast and author Colleen Hoover wanted nothing to do with Baldoni. That was anonymous-source reporting, not a court finding—and the dispute has since been resolved by agreement, without a public trial verdict.
What did the 2024 PEOPLE exclusive report?
In an excerpt carried by AllSides, PEOPLE’s August 12, 2024 exclusive quoted an unnamed source saying, “There is much more to this story,” and alleging that “the principal cast and Colleen Hoover will have nothing to do with him.” The excerpt framed the tensions as going beyond alleged creative differences between Baldoni and Lively.
The source was not named, and the excerpt does not independently establish the broader-cast claim. It also said representatives for Lively and Baldoni did not respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment. The claim should therefore be read as an allegation attributed to that source—not as a statement from the cast, Hoover, either actor, or a court.
How did the dispute develop?
It Ends with Us, directed by Baldoni and starring him opposite Lively, was adapted from Colleen Hoover’s novel. The public conflict later became a legal dispute, with each side advancing different claims.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the film grossed about $350 million worldwide. That box-office figure is context about the film, not evidence for either side’s account of the dispute.
What did Lively and Baldoni allege?
Lively’s claims included allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation connected with the production, as well as an effort to damage her reputation. Baldoni denied harassing her or orchestrating a smear campaign. He argued that Lively had sought creative control and damaged his reputation.

The April 2026 ruling determined which claims could proceed under the applicable legal standards; it was not a jury finding about whether the alleged conduct happened. The claims that survived that ruling were not decided at trial: the parties reached an agreement before the scheduled trial.
What did the settlement say—and what did it leave undisclosed?
The May 4 joint statement, reproduced by the Los Angeles Times, said, “The end product — the movie ‘It Ends With Us’ — is a source of pride to all of us who worked to bring it to life.” It also said, “We acknowledge the process presented challenges and recognize concerns raised by Ms. Lively deserved to be heard.”

The statement did not disclose settlement terms. Its conciliatory language does not establish that either side’s allegations were true, and the public announcement does not establish that money changed hands as part of the agreement.

In a separate development after the settlement, the Associated Press reported that Judge Lewis J. Liman awarded Lively $363,245 in attorney fees and $44,206 in costs related to her defense against Baldoni’s defamation claims. The judge denied most of the additional relief she sought.

Those amounts were a ruling on fees and costs, not settlement damages or a trial award about the underlying allegations. The public settlement terms remained undisclosed in the reporting on the agreement.
