At the end of 2024, WIRED picked 15 series it was anticipating for 2025: a mix of new dramas and returning seasons spanning science fiction, crime, history, medicine, animation, and comedy. The list is a dated US release preview, not a current guide to what is streaming now; its dates and platform names reflect what the publication forecast on December 31, 2024.
How to read this 2025 preview
These are WIRED’s editorial selections, not a ranked industry list. The release dates and services below are the article’s US forecasts from December 31, 2024. Several entries had only a year attached, and the preview does not establish actual release outcomes or present-day catalog availability.
WIRED connected Hollywood’s delays partly to the effects of the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes, while noting that many postponed series had already premiered or returned in 2024. The roundup includes both fresh series and new seasons of established shows.
The 15 anticipated shows
1. Lockerbie: A Search for Truth
This five-part drama follows Jim Swire’s search for answers after the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103. Colin Firth portrays Swire. The series is adapted from the 2021 book The Lockerbie Bombing: A Father’s Search for Justice, co-written by Swire and Peter Biddulph; the book is source material, not something viewers need to read first. WIRED forecast a US premiere on Peacock on January 7, 2025.
