As a claim about money or Netflix’s business expectations, “flop” is not established. Netflix defines a “view” in its engagement reporting as total hours viewed divided by the title’s runtime. The figure therefore is not necessarily a count of distinct people: repeat viewing and the calculation method mean it should not be translated into “16 million people watched.” About Netflix’s engagement reporting
The same weekly report listed the original The Old Guard at No. 5 with 4.9 million views. That offers a useful comparison within that particular chart week, but it does not compare the two films’ full lifetimes, opening periods, or profitability.

Why the reviews were so negative
Rotten Tomatoes’ critics consensus faulted the sequel’s handling of its lore and its execution. Its 27% critic score and 33% audience score point to broadly weak reception on that service at the time checked, but an aggregator score is not a universal verdict or a detailed explanation of every review.
The numbers also describe different groups: the Tomatometer aggregates critics’ reviews, while the Popcornmeter reflects audience ratings. Neither score explains why an individual viewer liked or disliked the film, and both totals may move as more reviews or ratings are added.

What the sequel is about
Directed by Victoria Mahoney and written by Greg Rucka and Sarah L. Walker, The Old Guard 2 reunites Andy, played by Charlize Theron, with her immortal mercenary team as a new threat emerges. Andy is now mortal; the team seeks Tuah, played by Henry Golding, whose knowledge may help them understand the nature of immortality. Quynh, played by Veronica Van, also returns.
