A rumor that Tom Holland’s next Spider-Man film could connect directly to Avengers: Doomsday raises a fair question: would that leave room for a satisfying new trilogy of its own? The claim is unconfirmed, however, and no official source cited here confirms either a new trilogy or a direct sequel connection. The released film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is the fourth Holland-led Spider-Man movie—not proof of what comes next.
What is the Spider-Man 4 rumor?
An indexed September 3, 2025 CBR article attributed to Jordan Iacobucci described Spider-Man: Brand New Day as the first film in a new trilogy and raised the possibility that it could directly follow Avengers: Doomsday. The indexed summary does not identify the rumor’s original source or provide evidence that either idea is confirmed. Treat it as speculation, not an announced Marvel or Sony plan. IMDb’s index of the CBR article captures that framing, but it is not confirmation from the studios.
Is the next Spider-Man trilogy in trouble?
There is not enough confirmed information to say. A direct connection to an Avengers film could make Peter Parker’s story feel subordinate to a larger crossover if the next films rely on that event to set their stakes. But the rumor alone does not show that this is what the filmmakers intend, or even that a trilogy has been approved. No primary-source statement confirming a trilogy or direct Doomsday follow-up was verified.
It is also important not to combine separate rumor coverage as if it described one established plan. A June 14, 2025 Toxigon article discussed speculation about a darker tone, absent returning characters and script rewrites, but the indexed material supplied no substantiation for those claims. Those points are distinct from the later headline’s possible Doomsday connection. Toxigon’s rumor commentary should not be treated as confirmation of either storyline.

What is confirmed about Brand New Day?
Sony identifies Spider-Man: Brand New Day as the fourth film featuring Holland as Spider-Man; Spider-Man: No Way Home is his third. Sony’s official cast listing names Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo. Its synopsis says the story takes place four years after No Way Home, with Peter living in isolation after erasing himself from the memories of those he loves. Sony’s film page provides the film and cast details, while Sony Pictures Japan’s announcement gives the synopsis and release information.
Sony announced a Japan/US release date of July 31, 2026. As of October 8, 2026, the film is no longer upcoming: Sony’s US page lists digital retail availability. Sony Group later reported an opening weekend of $360 million domestically and $932 million globally; those are Sony-published figures, not independently verified here. Sony Group’s August 4, 2026 post reported those totals.

Why the rumor is worth watching—but not treating as news
The real creative question is whether Peter’s isolation can remain the emotional center of his next chapter, rather than becoming a bridge between Avengers events. Brand New Day starts from a specific consequence of No Way Home: Peter has chosen a life in which the people he loves do not remember him. That premise gives the film a personal direction, but it does not establish a plot for any later installment.
- Confirmed: Brand New Day is Holland’s fourth Spider-Man film, and Sony’s synopsis follows Peter’s isolation after No Way Home.
- Unconfirmed: that the film launches a new trilogy or directly follows Avengers: Doomsday.
- Not established: a locked schedule, future-film plot, or specific commitment from Holland.
Until Marvel or Sony announces a future-film plan, the rumor is a prompt for discussion—not evidence that Tom Holland’s next trilogy exists or is in trouble.
