Disney’s first teaser for the live-action Lilo & Stitch is a quick character gag, not a plot-heavy trailer: Stitch appears on a sunny Hawaiian beach, wrecks a sandcastle shaped like Disney’s Cinderella Castle, then scrambles the title and release messaging. The joke is the contrast between his fluffy, cute look and his gleeful destruction.
What happens in the first teaser?
Disney released the official teaser on November 25, 2024. It begins with a broad beach and blue Hawaiian sea, then reveals a detailed sand sculpture modeled on Cinderella Castle. Stitch bounds into the scene and smashes it, turning the peaceful postcard setting into a miniature rampage. Disney Japan’s November 27 account describes the same sequence, including Stitch meddling with the title and release messaging.
The teaser’s appeal rests on that visual contrast: Stitch looks soft and toy-like, but behaves like an unstoppable wrecking ball. The beach and castle establish a calm, familiar image; his entrance punctures it almost immediately. Disney’s official YouTube description played along with the joke: “Stitch CRASHES into theaters May 23, 2025!”
Does the teaser show Lilo or explain the story?
No. This first teaser is centered on Stitch and the sandcastle gag. It does not introduce Lilo, the human cast, or the film’s full story. Disney describes the movie as a live-action reimagining of its 2002 animated classic, about a lonely Hawaiian girl and a fugitive alien who helps mend her broken family. That premise gives the teaser context, but the teaser itself is not a story trailer.
#1 Best Overall
- Lilo?s an independent little girl; Stitch is a mischievous creature from outer space, and when their worlds collide, it?s love ? and chaos! ? at first sight.
The franchise’s family theme is often expressed through “ohana.” Disney Japan explains the Hawaiian word as meaning family and describes the bond as extending beyond blood relations. In the film’s premise, that idea connects Lilo and Stitch; the brief teaser does not spell out their relationship.
How does the teaser fit the film?
The live-action reimagining was directed by Dean Fleischer Camp. Maia Kealoha plays Lilo, and Chris Sanders returns as Stitch’s voice. The announced cast also includes Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, Hannah Waddingham, Courtney B. Vance, and Zach Galifianakis.

Disney later released a separate trailer in March 2025 with broader film context. That later material should not be mistaken for footage in the first teaser, whose purpose is simply to introduce Stitch’s mischievous energy.
When did the live-action Lilo & Stitch open?
The first teaser listing gave May 23, 2025, as the U.S. release date. Dates differed by territory: Disney’s Middle East film page listed May 22, 2025, while Disney UK said the UK opening was May 23, 2025. These are historical release dates, not an indication of current theatrical availability.

- Experience this funny and touching live-action reimagining of Disney’s animated classic. When a lonely girl named Lilo adopts Stitch, an alien “puppy,” Stitch helps to mend Lilo’s broken family — but not without wreaking hilarious havoc on the Hawaiian Islands.
Where can you watch the film now?
Disney UK announced on August 5, 2025, that the film would debut on Disney+ on September 3, 2025, and said the animated classic and franchise collection were available there. Those are UK announcements; streaming catalogues vary by region and can change, so check the Disney+ catalogue where you live.
In the same August 2025 announcement, Disney reported that the live-action film had passed $1 billion in global box office and called it the first Motion Picture Association title of 2025 to reach that mark. Disney also described its Memorial Day weekend debut as a record-breaking $183 million. Both figures are Disney’s reported numbers, rather than independently verified totals here.
