The Erie Hall story is real as a reported experience; its supernatural explanation remains unverified.
What Chris Di Cesare says happened at Erie Hall
Di Cesare was a student at SUNY Geneseo in 1985. In his account, events unfolded between February and April in Erie Hall room C2D1. He and his friend J. Jeff Ungar described voices, an apparition, objects moving, physical harm, and a priest blessing the dorm room. These are claims attributed to the people involved, not events independently confirmed by the available reporting.
The Lamron’s 2023 profile says Ungar’s writings and other materials helped inform its account. Those traces offer context for how the story was recorded and retold, but their existence does not establish what caused the reported experiences. The Lamron’s profile of Di Cesare presents the story as a retrospective account.
What is established—and what is not
The sources support that Di Cesare and others told this story and that writings and other materials were discussed in connection with it. They do not independently authenticate a supernatural cause. Photographs, journals, interviews, a book, or screen adaptations may document that people reported events; none, by itself, proves a ghost was present.

Di Cesare has also described an ancestral connection and interpreted the spirit as seeking peace. That is his retrospective account and belief, not settled history or an independently established explanation. An account can be sincere and meaningful to its participants without resolving what happened or why.
How the Netflix adaptation differs from Di Cesare’s account
The Netflix series is a dramatized retelling, not a verbatim record. In a 2025 interview with The Lamron, Di Cesare said participants supplied materials and event details to the production, and that much of the reconstruction felt faithful to personalities and relationships as he remembered them. He also identified changes to the story:

- The series compressed the timeline.
- It moved the final encounter from room C2D1 to another location.
- It moved the discovery about family history earlier than he says it happened.
Di Cesare also corrected a scene about his first encounter with the ghost, saying that although he ran into Jeff and Ed’s room, Ed was there. He said Ed could not participate in the production because of job-related restrictions. These are Di Cesare’s recollections and assessment of the adaptation, not independent verification of the haunting. The Lamron’s 2025 interview discusses his comments on the series.
Why the story is framed as more than a ghost story
Di Cesare described the account as “less of a ghost story and moreso a coming-of-age story,” about young people surviving a crisis by relying on one another. That framing centers the relationships and the participants’ response, while leaving the supernatural interpretation unresolved. It is his characterization of what the story means to him.

Books and films about the Erie Hall story
Di Cesare’s memoir, The Ghost Boy of Erie Hall: True Haunting, is listed by its publisher in ebook, audiobook, paperback, and hardcover formats. As a memoir by a central witness, it is a firsthand source for his perspective, not independent corroboration. CITA Ventures lists the book and its formats.
The official site for Please, talk with me describes the film as covering part of the 1985 story and says DVD editions are sold through the Erie Hall Store. It is another adaptation, not separate evidence for paranormal causation. The film’s official site provides its description.
