In a PEOPLE interview published April 6, 2024, the actor said he did not know where his journey on the series would lead, while also describing the situation as “really good right now.” His comments expressed uncertainty, not a confirmed exit.
What Sean Murray said about his NCIS future
In an interview with PEOPLE’s Esther Kang, published April 6, 2024, Murray reflected on his 21 seasons on NCIS as the franchise approached its 1,000th episode. He acknowledged that past events on the show had shown that “No one is quite safe,” and added, “you never know what’s going to happen.”
But Murray also cautioned against treating anything as certain. He said things were “really good right now,” that the cast was having a good time, and, “And I don’t think anyone is itching to go elsewhere at the moment.” Read together, the remarks do not amount to a departure announcement. When were the remarks made?
The interview was published April 6, 2024. It said NCIS would celebrate its 1,000th episode on April 15, 2024, and described Murray as having been with the series for 21 seasons at the time. These are details from that dated interview, not a new statement about his status today.

What did he say about NCIS’s longevity?
Murray credited the show’s care and quality, the foundation established early on, and the connection fans formed with the series and its characters. He also described the spin-offs as having distinct identities. Those are his personal reflections on the franchise’s endurance, not independently established causes of its success.
