As checked on August 18, 2026, Pluto TV’s official status page showed All systems operational and no incidents in the previous two weeks. That makes a worldwide outage less likely, although a new, regional, Android-only, content-specific, or device-specific failure can still be developing. Check the outage indicators first, then follow the troubleshooting path for your Android phone, tablet, Android TV, Google TV, or casting setup.
Pluto TV remains distributed through Google Play by Pluto, Inc. Its official platform information includes Android mobile devices, Android TV/Google TV-related devices, and Chromecast, subject to country, model, operating-system, certification, and app-build limits.
Check whether Pluto TV is actually down
- Open Pluto TV’s official status page. Treat it as an indicator rather than absolute proof: dashboards can lag behind a new incident or omit a geographically limited problem.
- Open Pluto’s website in a browser on the same network. If the website works while the app fails, the problem is more likely app- or device-specific.
- Try another streaming app. If several services buffer or fail, investigate the network before reinstalling Pluto.
- Switch connections: use mobile data instead of Wi-Fi on a phone or tablet, or try another Wi-Fi network. On a supported TV device, test Ethernet if available.
- Identify the failing function: app launch, login, live channels, on-demand titles, advertisements, or casting. A single channel or title failing does not establish a Pluto-wide outage.
If Pluto fails simultaneously on Android, the web, and other devices; multiple people report the same regional problem; or the status page lists an incident, a service-side failure becomes more plausible. If only one Android device fails while the browser and other devices work, start with local fixes.

Run the low-risk Android fix sequence
Test Pluto after each step. Google’s Android guidance covers apps that crash, will not open, stop responding, or malfunction.

- Force-close Pluto TV. On most phones and tablets, open Settings → Apps (or Apps & notifications) → Pluto TV → Force stop, then reopen it.
- Restart the device. Use the system restart command rather than only locking the screen.
- Check the connection. Open another website or app, then switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data where possible.
- Update Pluto TV. In Google Play, tap your profile icon → Manage apps & device → update Pluto TV if listed.
- Update Android. Look under Settings → System → Software update or System update. Manufacturers may place this under About phone, About tablet, or System & updates.
- Temporarily disable network interference. Test with VPNs, custom DNS, ad blockers, parental controls, or router-level filtering disabled, then restore them if they are not the cause.
- Check free storage. Low storage can prevent updates and cause secondary app problems.
- Clear Pluto’s cache. Use the device-specific path below.
- Clear Pluto’s data only if necessary. This is a fuller reset and can sign you out.
- Uninstall and reinstall Pluto TV from its official Google Play listing.
Do not factory-reset a phone, television, or streaming box for an isolated Pluto problem. Do not install an older or modified APK.

- Settings → Apps (or Apps & notifications).
- Select Pluto TV.
- Tap Storage & cache.
- Choose Clear cache and reopen Pluto.
Clearing cache removes temporary files and normally preserves the app’s account state. If that fails, return to the same screen and choose Clear storage or Clear data. This resets local settings and may require you to sign in again. Android settings differ by manufacturer, as explained in Google’s troubleshooting guidance.
Fix Pluto TV on Android TV or Google TV
Televisions and streaming boxes do not expose identical menus, but look for Settings → Apps → See all apps → Pluto TV. From the Pluto entry, use Force stop, then Clear cache; use Clear data only for a fuller reset. If offered, Uninstall updates is a device-specific option, not a universal requirement. Reinstall Pluto from Google Play afterward.

- Restart from the device’s system menu. If that fails, unplug the streaming device—not just the television display—for about 30 seconds, then reconnect it.
- Install pending Pluto and system updates.
- Check available storage.
- Confirm that the box or television is on the intended Wi-Fi network.
- Temporarily bypass VPNs, custom DNS, ad blocking, Wi-Fi isolation, and router security filtering.
- Test Pluto on a phone or browser using the same network.

When casting from Android does not work
- Put the Android phone or tablet and Chromecast or Google TV device on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Restart both the source device and the Chromecast/Google TV device.
- Update Pluto TV and Google Home or relevant Google TV components.
- Temporarily disable VPNs and network isolation.
- Cast from another app. If other apps also fail, troubleshoot Google Cast or the network; if only Pluto fails, keep the focus on Pluto.
Pluto’s casting guidance advises disconnecting both the source device and Chromecast from Wi-Fi, reconnecting them, and ensuring the Pluto app is current when crashes occur.

Cases that need a different response
Pluto is absent from Google Play
Google Play availability can depend on country, device model, Android version, certification, and the account/device configuration. Check Google’s app-availability guidance rather than sideloading an unofficial build.

Google Play itself cannot install or update Pluto
Google Play services data should not be the first playback fix. Resetting it can remove or reset information such as saved Google Pay data and may require reauthentication. Reserve that step for persistent Play Store installation or update failures after simpler checks; see Google’s Play services warning.
What to send Pluto support
If the sequence does not resolve the problem, use Pluto’s support route from the Google Play listing. Include:
- Exact device model and country or region
- Android or Android TV/Google TV version
- Pluto app version
- The exact error message
- Whether you are on Wi-Fi, mobile data, or Ethernet
- Whether Pluto works in a browser or on another device
- Whether live channels, on-demand titles, advertisements, login, or casting fail
- When the problem began and what you were watching
That information helps distinguish an app defect from a network, account, content, compatibility, or service-side failure.
Workarounds while Android is failing
- Use the official website: pluto.tv can show whether the Android app is the isolated problem.
- Try another officially supported device: Pluto’s where-to-watch page and authorized-platform information explain that availability varies by location and hardware.
- Cast from a working phone app: This is practical only when local-network discovery and the Chromecast/Google TV device work.
- Use another free streaming app temporarily: Pluto’s Google Play page identifies Tubi, Filmzie, and Plex as similar apps. Their catalogs, advertising, regional availability, and device support differ.
Buying a replacement streaming device is not the default fix. Consider it only when Pluto works elsewhere, the existing TV’s Android software is the isolated failure, and the replacement is officially supported in your region.
