The proposed Wednesday spinoff about Uncle Fester has no confirmed release date or publicly established current status. It was reported in early development at Netflix in 2023; in September 2025, Fred Armisen said the project was being worked on, but he gave no details about its stage or timing. That comment is the latest specific public update identified here, not confirmation of a series order or production.
What is the Wednesday spinoff about?
The project is centered on Uncle Fester, played by Fred Armisen in Netflix’s Wednesday. Good Morning America reported on December 19, 2023, that a series focused on the character—then titled Fester—was in early development at Netflix, with MGM Television producing. The report said no further details were available. Good Morning America’s report establishes the original announcement; it does not establish that Netflix ordered a series.
What is the latest confirmed status?
The public comments identified since the initial report are from 2025, and they describe different moments in development rather than a definitive current status.
July 2025: the creators said it was not a priority then
On July 30, 2025, co-creators Al Gough and Miles Millar told Tom’s Guide that their attention was on developing season 3 of Wednesday. Gough said the Fester project was “not a priority at the moment” because the team had moved from finishing season 2 to developing season 3. This was a time-specific explanation of their focus in July 2025, not a statement of the project’s status in 2026. Tom’s Guide reported the creators’ comments.

September 2025: Armisen said they were working on it
On September 10, 2025, Armisen said, “Yeah, we’re working on it… It’s fantastic… It’s amazing,” during an appearance on The Tonight Show, as reported by GamesRadar+. His brief comment indicates that he described the project as being worked on at that time. It does not specify whether a script, pilot, or production was underway, nor does it provide a schedule. GamesRadar+ reported Armisen’s remarks.
October 2026: no new spinoff status in Netflix’s update
Netflix’s October 2026 coverage says production on Wednesday season 3 has wrapped and gives updates about the main series. It does not announce a Fester spinoff schedule or status. That silence cannot confirm whether the project remains active, is paused, or has been canceled. Netflix Tudum’s season 3 update is about the parent series, not a Fester-series announcement.

How it relates to Netflix’s Wednesday
The Fester project is separate from the parent series’ announced premise. Netflix described Wednesday as an eight-episode supernatural mystery following Wednesday Addams as a student at Nevermore Academy when it announced the show on February 17, 2021. That announcement credits Al Gough and Miles Millar’s pitch and says Tim Burton would make his television directorial debut with the series; it does not describe the Fester spinoff. Netflix’s original announcement provides the parent-show context, not a plot outline or personnel list for the proposed spinoff.
