The title most likely points to Mai Zen’in, but that identification is an inference—not an official label or a verified description of a specific Season 3 farewell. The official anime site places Mai in its Culling Game character roster, while the available official season information does not establish the episode or scene in which viewers should “say goodbye.”
Why Mai Zen’in is the likely character
The official Jujutsu Kaisen character roster includes Mai Zen’in in its Culling Game section. That connects her to the storyline Season 3 adapts, making her the likeliest subject of this headline. It does not call her the season’s “most tragic character,” confirm a particular fate, or identify a farewell scene.
“Most tragic” is therefore an interpretation of the character’s story, not an objective ranking established by the anime’s official materials. The headline’s “say goodbye” wording should also be treated as a spoiler-facing hook, rather than confirmation that a particular scene has aired.
What Season 3 covers—and what its official announcements confirm
The anime’s official Season 3 announcement identifies the adaptation as The Culling Game Part 1 and frames it as the story following the Shibuya Incident. The official Japanese broadcast information says the season began on January 8, 2026, with a one-hour opening special combining episodes 1 and 2: broadcast information.

Those details establish the season’s broad scope and Japanese start date. They do not confirm the exact episode for Mai’s farewell, or even that the scene implied by the headline has appeared in the anime. No episode number should be inferred from the roster or the season announcement alone.
Anime-only or manga spoilers?
If you are watching the anime and want to avoid source-material spoilers, stop at the official information above: it identifies Mai as part of the Culling Game cast but does not verify her specific outcome. Explaining what happens to her would go beyond what those official season and roster pages establish.

For the manga, VIZ’s official Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 149 listing is one source for reading the series. It is dated June 6, 2021. That listing can help manga readers locate the chapter, but it does not establish here how the anime’s episodes map to manga chapters or which collected volume contains the relevant event.
