Deltarune consistently uses singular “they” for Kris. That supports using they/them pronouns, but it is not the same as an explicit declaration of a particular gender identity.
What pronouns does Deltarune use for Kris?
The Deltarune Wiki reports that characters, narration, and external material consistently refer to Kris with singular “they.” That pattern is the clearest evidence for how to refer to the character: use they/them.
The wiki also recounts an exchange from the UNDERTALE sixth-anniversary stream. It says co-hosts Reid Young and Dan Moore referred to Kris as “he,” after which Toby Fox said, “They’re stuck.” This is a secondary account of a brief exchange, not a primary transcript verified here, so it is supporting context rather than the basis for the answer. Do they/them pronouns mean Kris is non-binary?
Not by themselves. Singular they is the established pronoun pattern reported for Kris, but pronouns and a stated gender identity are different kinds of information. Wikipedia notes that readers have interpreted the singular-they usage as indicating that Kris is non-binary, while also noting a lack of official confirmation of Kris’s gender. The sources reviewed therefore support the pronouns, but do not establish an explicit creator declaration of a specific identity label. Wikipedia’s Kris article

Why do some descriptions call Kris gender-neutral?
A narrative review hosted by the Game Developers Conference describes Kris as “gender neutral” and discusses them as a quiet, school-attending protagonist whose choices are shaped by the player. That is the review author’s characterization, not a quoted declaration from Toby Fox. It helps explain why readers encounter gender-neutral descriptions, but it should not be presented as proof of an official identity label. GDC narrative review

Use they/them when discussing Kris, reflecting the pronouns reported in the game and related material. If discussing gender identity, be precise: the reviewed sources do not establish that Kris is a boy, and they do not verify an explicit creator statement naming Kris’s gender identity.
