What is known about Roiland’s role in High on Life 2?
High on Life 2 is a Squanch Games sequel developed after Roiland left the studio. In a February 2026 interview, Squanch Games CEO and Studio Director Mike Fridley described Kenny’s removal as a conscious decision. Fridley also said the studio considered comedy during the period when Roiland was transitioning out.

That reporting supports saying Roiland left Squanch Games and that Kenny was deliberately removed. It does not establish the full scope of every possible contribution to the sequel, nor does it document a comprehensive audit of the game’s credits. Xbox Wire announced the sequel in June 2025 and linked to its Xbox product listing.
What happened to the charges against Justin Roiland?
In January 2023, the Associated Press reported that Roiland had pleaded not guilty to two felony domestic violence charges in Orange County, California. The AP also reported that Adult Swim and Hulu were ending their association with him, and that Squanch Games said he had resigned.

Squanch Games received Roiland’s resignation on January 16, 2023, according to a studio announcement reported by GameSpot. The studio said it would continue developing games and supporting High on Life.
In March 2023, the Orange County District Attorney’s office dismissed the two charges. A spokesperson told the Los Angeles Times that the office dismissed them because it had insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. A dismissal on that basis is not a conviction, and it should not be described as proof that the allegations were false.

How to understand the “controversy status”
The sourced timeline establishes two separate facts: Roiland resigned from Squanch Games in January 2023, and prosecutors dismissed the reported charges in March 2023 for insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. Those facts do not establish a broader account of every public allegation or workplace controversy, so claims beyond them should be assessed against reliable reporting rather than treated as settled.

In a February 2026 TechRadar interview, Fridley discussed the studio’s approach to comedy after Roiland’s departure and said Kenny’s removal was a conscious choice. The interview also reported Fridley’s figure of 25 million players for the first High on Life; that is the CEO’s reported player count, not independently audited sales data. The cited reporting gives no directly comparable sequel sales figure, and players should not be equated with copies sold.
