Hentai Haven shut down in December 2018, then relaunched on May 12, 2019. That establishes that it came back at the time; it does not establish that the original service is operating today. Third-party checks in September 2026 conflicted, and no current first-party statement confirming its status or control was located.
When did Hentai Haven shut down?
Know Your Meme dates Hentai Haven’s shutdown to December 19, 2018, and says the reason was unknown. Claims that it closed for a specific copyright or legal reason should be treated as speculation unless supported by direct evidence. After the closure, the site’s homepage reportedly changed to say it was teaming up with FAKKU to save HH. Know Your Meme’s timeline provides the retrospective account.

When did Hentai Haven come back?
Hentai Haven relaunched on May 12, 2019. In an announcement reproduced on Reddit, the site said: “We’re back. Hentai Haven 2: Electric Boogaloo. We’re operating on our own. We weren’t purchased by anyone. We’re still the same HH you know and love.” The launch reportedly drew enough visitors for the servers to go down within an hour, a sign of the response then—not evidence of present-day uptime.
The announcement said FAKKU had helped “coordinate things behind the scenes legally” and supplied licenses for anime. It described an ambition to become a “100% legal, 100% free” hentai anime streaming site, and said the project would either go legitimate within a year or shut back down. These were statements of intent, not independent confirmation that all content was licensed or that the goal was achieved. The reproduced relaunch announcement records what the site said at launch.

What happened between Hentai Haven and FAKKU?
In July 2019, Papa HH publicly alleged that FAKKU had taken over and excluded him. FAKKU founder Jacob Grady responded that he was pursuing legitimization and proper distribution of income. These were competing public accounts of the dispute, not a settled public record of who controlled the service at that point.
Know Your Meme’s later account says the disagreement was settled privately. It reports that Papa HH then said Hentai Haven would continue independently, with FAKKU helping it pursue legitimacy. That retrospective account does not establish the service’s current ownership or a continuing partnership.

Is Hentai Haven still working now?
Its present operating status could not be confirmed. Third-party monitoring sites reported conflicting results for the .org domain in September 2026: NotOpening listed it as reachable in checks dated September 2–10, while WebsiteDown.info recorded no HTTP 200 response on September 10. A reachable domain does not prove that the original service is running; a failed check does not prove permanent closure. NotOpening’s status checks and WebsiteDown.info’s report are monitoring results, not first-party confirmation.
No current statement from Hentai Haven confirming that the original service is operating or identifying who controls it was located. The documented 2019 relaunch should therefore be understood as a historical return, not proof that the site remains available or that another site is its official successor.
