There is no confirmation in the available reporting that Bill Goldberg is about to return to WWE, and no specific “big storyline” has been identified. Without a current statement from Goldberg or WWE, or a credible report with named sourcing, the headline should be treated as an unverified claim—not an announcement.
Is Goldberg really returning to WWE?
The available search results do not corroborate an imminent return. They also do not provide a confirmed appearance date, opponent, or WWE announcement. That means the return claim remains unresolved; it does not establish that Goldberg will never appear again.
A recent Fightful result refers to Goldberg discussing retirement after leaving WWE, but the excerpt does not establish his current contract status or reveal new WWE plans: Fightful. A retirement-related comment, on its own, is not confirmation of a new appearance—or proof that one is impossible.
What is the “big storyline” supposed to be?
No specific storyline is substantiated in the available material. It names no opponent, timing, or WWE announcement, so there is not enough information to describe a plot or present one as in development. Until an attributable report or direct statement supplies those details, “big storyline” is an unsupported part of the claim.

What Goldberg’s past WWE comments do—and don’t—tell us
His 2016 comments were about that moment
In a 2016 VICE interview, Goldberg described his WWE 2K17 involvement as promotional and said, “As to anything further than that, there isn’t any, right now.” The answer concerned his plans at the time; it says nothing definitive about his current intentions. Read the VICE interview.
WWE also published a 2016 interview page about Goldberg and WWE 2K17, reflecting that dated gaming tie-in rather than a present-day return plan: WWE’s 2016 interview. The game’s connection to Goldberg is historical context, not evidence of current booking.

The 2017 Royal Rumble was a confirmed past appearance
ESPN reported in 2016 that Goldberg announced he would compete in the 2017 Royal Rumble after returning at Survivor Series. That sequence shows what confirmation of a past appearance looked like: an announced event and a named match. It does not predict another return now. ESPN’s report.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What would count as confirmation?
A current, attributable statement from Goldberg or WWE would directly address the question. A credible report that identifies its sourcing and gives concrete details—such as a date, opponent, or storyline—could also support the claim. Until then, the return and storyline should remain described as unconfirmed, and Goldberg’s current contract status should not be inferred from the available results.
