Yes, Dailymotion is a legitimate video-sharing platform, and watching ordinary videos on its official site is generally safe for adults. That does not make every video, advertisement, link, or download safe. The main risks are deceptive ads and redirects, user-uploaded material that has not yet been removed, and privacy trade-offs from data collection and targeted advertising. Children need particular care: Dailymotion says users must be at least 13, and its content filter is not a guarantee of a child-safe experience.
Is Dailymotion a legitimate website?
The official site is dailymotion.com. Dailymotion publishes terms and privacy policies, provides tools to report content, and maintains a process for reporting security vulnerabilities. It says content is transferred using HTTPS, which protects the connection between your browser and the site; it does not certify that a video is accurate or that an advertisement’s destination is safe. Dailymotion’s security and vulnerability information is available in its Content Security & Privacy guidance and vulnerability disclosure page.
A legitimate platform can still host material that is misleading, disturbing, infringing, or otherwise unsafe. Rules and moderation reduce some risks but cannot establish that every upload has been reviewed or will be removed immediately. Also distinguish the real site from lookalike domains, unofficial apps, search-result ads, and links shared elsewhere. Type dailymotion.com yourself or use a bookmark, and get an app only from the official Apple or Google store listing.
Can Dailymotion give you a virus?
Simply visiting the official site or playing a video is not the same as downloading malware. The more realistic danger is being redirected by a deceptive advertisement or link to a phishing page, fake virus warning, or unwanted download. A warning that suddenly claims your device is infected does not prove Dailymotion infected it.

Do not install anything a video page or pop-up calls a codec, HD player, subtitle package, browser extension, security tool, or update. Do not download APK files or unsigned installers, call a displayed support number, or grant remote access. A video should not require a special external player or update to play.
If a fake alert appears
- Do not click “clean,” “remove virus,” “call support,” or “download now.”
- Close the tab or browser. If it will not close normally, quit the browser rather than interacting with the alert.
- If you downloaded a file, do not open it. Remove it and scan using a trusted security product already installed or obtained from its official source.
An independent domain scan characterized dailymotion.com as an established, legitimate domain while noting the risk associated with third-party advertising. That is a limited signal, not a guarantee that every ad or redirect is safe: MalwareTips’ Dailymotion domain scan.
Are Dailymotion ads safe?
Advertising is an essential feature of Dailymotion, according to its current Terms of Use. The company describes brand-safety and ad-fraud measures, including URL and text analysis, third-party partners such as Integral Ad Science and DoubleVerify, and ads.txt compliance. Those measures can reduce risk; they cannot guarantee that every ad, redirect, or advertiser’s destination is harmless. Dailymotion outlines these controls in its brand safety and ad protection information.

Do not trust an ad just because it appears on a legitimate platform. Be especially wary of urgent virus alerts, prizes, investment promises, requests for payment or account credentials, and offers to download software. Dailymotion’s current terms also prohibit ad-blockers and say access may be blocked if ad-blocking is detected; ad-blocking should not be presented as a supported Dailymotion safety setting.

Dailymotion says no one under 13 may use the service. Local law may impose additional requirements for minors; in the United States, the company cites 13 as an example of the minimum age under COPPA. Its Child Safety Policy and Minor’s Toolkit describe age-related protections.
Dailymotion says the sensitive-content filter is enabled by default for users it identifies as under 18 and for people watching while logged out. Its toolkit says users under 18 cannot disable it. Dailymotion also says its moderation team reviews content continuously and prohibits child sexual exploitation, dangerous acts involving minors, cyberbullying, deceptive family content, and other harmful material. Those policies and controls are not a guarantee that all videos, thumbnails, ads, recommendations, comments, or external links are suitable for a child.

Practical guidance for parents
- Follow the applicable age rules; do not treat the service as suitable for under-13s.
- For teens who are eligible to use it, supervise viewing and discuss deceptive ads, strangers, and external links.
- Tell children not to share their full name, school, address, phone number, passwords, or other identifying details.
- Use the reporting controls for harmful material. Dailymotion’s Child Protection Policy explains prohibited content involving minors.
Is Dailymotion private?
Dailymotion is not a privacy-maximal video service. Its Privacy Policy and privacy-policy summary describe processing information to provide the service, maintain safety, support advertising and personalization, and meet legal or business purposes. Watching without an account means you provide less account information directly, but it does not necessarily prevent cookies, IP-address or device processing, analytics, or advertising-related data collection.
Common Sense Privacy’s independent Dailymotion evaluation raises concerns about personalized advertising, third-party data collection, profiling, and aspects of deletion or de-identification. This is an assessment of policy language, not evidence of a data breach. Review available cookie, advertising, privacy, and communications controls if you register, and avoid adding personal details to a public profile.
Is it safe to create an account or upload videos?
An account can be reasonable to use, but protect it as you would any online account. Choose a unique password, use a public username that does not reveal your identity or location, and be suspicious of messages asking for your password, payment, verification code, or identity documents. If you suspect unauthorized access, change the password from a trusted device and secure the email account used for recovery.

Before uploading, check both the audience setting and what the recording reveals. Public videos can expose faces, voices, locations, school uniforms, license plates, home details, documents, or account information visible in a screen recording. Dailymotion’s security and privacy guidance says private videos do not appear in Dailymotion search or search-engine results and can be viewed by people with the link. That is link-based access, not a claim of end-to-end encrypted storage. The same guidance says password protection is available for Creator and Pro accounts.
Uploads also carry policy and rights risks. Dailymotion prohibits categories including scams, fake engagement, misleading information, harassment, hate, dangerous activities, sexually explicit material, privacy violations, and copyright infringement. Violations can lead to removal or account sanctions. Check the prohibited-content rules before posting, and make sure you have the rights and consent needed for what you upload.

- Use the video’s Report control for prohibited content. Dailymotion’s Community Guidelines describe its rules, reporting, and appeals.
- Verify medical, financial, political, and breaking-news claims with reliable sources beyond the uploader.
What to do after clicking something suspicious
If you only viewed a page
Close it and do not interact with its prompts. A page visit alone does not establish that your device is infected. If it keeps reopening or behaves unusually, quit the browser and use a trusted security product to check the device.

If you downloaded a file
Do not open it. Remove it and scan the device with a trusted security product. If you did run it, avoid signing into sensitive accounts on that device until you have checked it, and seek help from a reputable technical-support source if suspicious behavior continues.
If you entered a password or payment details
From a trusted device, change the affected password anywhere it was reused and secure the associated email account. Contact your bank or payment provider promptly if you entered financial details. If you installed remote-access software at a pop-up’s request, disconnect the device from the internet and contact a trusted support professional; tell your bank if financial accounts may have been exposed.
If you find harmful content
Do not engage with the uploader or redistribute illegal material. Report the content using Dailymotion’s reporting tool and preserve only the minimum information needed to make the report. For credible imminent threats, child exploitation, violence, or extortion, contact relevant law enforcement or emergency services. Dailymotion provides guidance on reporting spam and fraudulent content.
