No: “serial home wrecker” is a charged label, not a conclusion established by the available reporting. Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater’s relationship became public soon after reports that Grande had separated from Dalton Gomez, while Slater was still legally married and later filed for divorce. Those dates fueled allegations, but they do not prove when the relationship began or establish that an affair caused either marriage to end.
What the timeline shows
The public chronology explains why the allegations took hold, but it does not settle what happened privately. Vogue’s October 15, 2024 timeline reports that filming on Wicked began in December 2022, when Grande was married to Gomez and Slater was married to Lilly Jay.

On July 20, 2023, People was reported as saying that Grande and Gomez had separated in January and that Grande and Slater had “recently” begun dating. Slater filed for divorce on July 26, 2023. “Recently” does not give a precise start date, and the divorce filing date alone cannot establish when a private relationship began.
What the divorce records establish—and what they do not
The Associated Press reported that Grande and Gomez filed for divorce in September 2023 and that a Los Angeles Superior Court judgment made their divorce official on March 19, 2024. Court papers recorded that they had separated more than a year before the judgment; Grande’s petition cited irreconcilable differences. The petition did not establish that Slater caused the marriage to end. Read the AP’s report on the judgment.

Legal filings are useful evidence of the marriages’ reported legal status and the dates of formal proceedings. They are not a complete account of when either relationship changed, and they do not adjudicate the allegation that Grande had an affair with Slater before a separation.
What Lilly Jay and Ariana Grande said
Jay criticized the situation in a statement to Page Six, quoted by Vogue and Glamour: “[Ariana’s] the story, really. Not a girl’s girl. My family is just collateral damage.” That is Jay’s expressed view and documents her reaction; it is not independent proof of infidelity. In a September 2024 Vanity Fair interview, Grande addressed the public narrative. The Daily Beast quoted her saying, “The most disappointing part was to see so many people believe the worst version of it.” Grande’s response is her account of the coverage; it does not by itself prove the allegations false. The Daily Beast reported her remarks.
Glamour also reported that, after the March 2024 release of her album, Grande asked people not to send hateful messages to people in her life based on their interpretation of the music. An album or reaction to its reception cannot establish the private chronology.

Why the label goes beyond the evidence
“Serial” suggests a demonstrated pattern, while “home wrecker” assigns responsibility for the breakdown of a marriage. The reporting reviewed here supports neither as a factual finding. It establishes a close sequence of public milestones, statements from people involved, and reporting that included unnamed-source claims. Those categories should not be treated as interchangeable:
- Court filings and judgments establish legal milestones and what the documents say; they do not necessarily explain private events.
- Named statements establish what a person said and how they described the situation, not independent proof of every underlying claim.
- Anonymous-source reporting should remain attributed to the outlet and its unnamed source, rather than being repeated as verified fact.
- Social-media interpretation and speculation do not fill gaps in the timeline.
As of June 2026, Us Weekly reported that Grande and Slater had ended their relationship that month. That update changes the present-day relationship status; it does not resolve when the relationship began in 2023. Us Weekly’s timeline reports the update.
