No. Acheron is not established as the literal same person as Raiden Mei from Honkai Impact 3rd. The most careful way to describe their connection is that Acheron is Honkai: Star Rail’s parallel counterpart to the recurring Raiden Mei character concept: she has her own identity and story, rather than Mei’s biography carried over into another game.
Who are Acheron and Raiden Mei?
Acheron is a character in Honkai: Star Rail. HoYoverse introduced her in its Version 2.1 announcement as a five-star Lightning/Nihility character. The announcement describes her combat role: she builds charges by inflicting debuffs, then can use her Ultimate to ignore enemy Weakness Types, drain Toughness from all enemies, and reduce their Type RES. Those details establish her role in HSR, not a shared identity with Mei. HoYoverse’s Version 2.1 announcement
Raiden Mei belongs to Honkai Impact 3rd. In official promotional material, the game identifies her by name and says, “Raiden Mei chose to protect humanity as a Herrscher.” That describes Mei’s role in HI3; it does not establish that Acheron is the same individual. What does their connection mean?
HoYoverse games use recurring character concepts and parallels across distinct settings. For Acheron and Mei, “counterpart” or “parallel version” communicates the relationship without claiming they share one continuous life. The available official material establishes each character in her own game, but does not establish that HI3’s Mei travelled into HSR, or that Acheron shares Mei’s personal history and relationships.

A 2024 Reddit discussion paraphrases a developer interview as describing the characters as “isotopes” with different circumstances and experiences. Because that is secondary reporting and the interview wording and translation are not verified here, it should not be treated as a confirmed direct quote or definitive canon explanation. Does resemblance prove they are the same person?
No. Similar visual or thematic cues can invite comparison, but they do not prove continuity of identity. The useful distinction is between a character parallel and a person with the same biography:

- Identity: Acheron is presented as an HSR character; Mei is an HI3 character. The available official sources do not say they are one literal person.
- History: Do not transfer Mei’s relationships or life events to Acheron as though they are shared canon.
- Role and powers: Each character belongs to a different game setting. Acheron’s HSR combat kit is not evidence of her identity.
- Callbacks: Similarities support reading them as counterparts, not as proof that one crossed into the other game.
Do you need to play Honkai Impact 3rd to understand Acheron?
No HI3 background is required to follow Acheron as an HSR character. HoYoverse’s announcement introduces her as part of HSR, and the official HoYoWiki story entry is titled “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” and identifies her as a Galaxy Ranger. That is enough to establish her game and character framing; the available story-page information does not support making more detailed claims about her dialogue or biography here. Playing or learning about HI3 can add context for why fans compare the two, but treat it as optional background—not a prerequisite or authority for Acheron’s HSR canon. An HSR-focused creator explainer can serve as an introduction to the comparison, though it is commentary rather than an official source. IslandXD’s Acheron explainer
